The aftermath of the pharmacology exam

The aftermath of the pharmacology exam resembled a funeral. One by one we filed from the classroom after saying goodbye to our last test. Small groups gathered in the hall and the cafeteria, the mood was not joyous, some were sad, some were crying, some were just quietly contemplating their fate. The grades were handed back from yesterdays fundamentals class...at least one person did not make it....one person, out of 30, got an "A" for the class. The remainder of the causalities will be known tomorrow when the pharm grades are posted. After about an hour the last of the small groups were leaving. Some were to gather at a restaurant for a margarita, some going home...maybe to begin cleaning the house that had been neglected for the last 16 weeks. Yes, it reminded me of a funeral...we just won't know until tomorrow who died. Hopefully the survivors will be able to celebrate.....and hopefully, sometime over the next four weeks...begin to look forward to the second semester of the nursing program....

Please let us know. Those of us just about to begin Pharmacology (ok, I admit it... ME) want to know what to expect and how bad it's going to be. Although I feel dreadfully bad for the people who didn't make it, hearing about their demise does inspire me to keep on track and study hard. Thank you, and ((hugs))

In our program, they said they lose the most people because of Pharmacology...I agree it is better to start off as best you can...my grades were high enough that I only have to get about 40 right answers out of 100 on the last test, but one girl said she need 98% to stay in the program....I would hate to be in her shoes....I worry that I did not get 40%...I am glad we only have to wait one day for the results...good luck in your schooling.

I know that we lost a lot of people from my class due to Pharm. Of all the classes I took this past semester, I spent the most time on pharm. However, my time paid off---I made an A.

Good luck to you Susan, and also to you NurseWeasel.

After one particularly horrendous semester where we lost a bunch of students, a nurse on one of our clinical floors heard us discussing it and how unfair it was for a couple of students (another story), she told us that believe it or not there was a reason why those students failed. She said we probably wouldn't realize it until much later, but it was because those students weren't ready to go to the next level. I think she was right. Actually, at the time, I didn't feel like I was really ready to move on, but maybe my passing proved I was.

Good luck to you guys. You are all ready for that next level. :)

We only lost 2 people due to Pharm...but 15 due to Intermediate Nursing. That was a toughie. I pulled a B, but also got an A in Pharm! I love drugs, and I guess I just understand how they work. Some people really have problems with it. Our Pharm teacher was so cool on the day of the final. She just said, "Just breathe. If you don't know it now, you aren't going to. If you fail, you just take it again. I would rather have you be my nurse knowing your drugs than to just have slid through the class with a C." She then said how it wasn't bad if you failed and it was OK...yadda yadda yadda....she is such a sweetheart!!!

Four more hours until the results are posted!! The time is passing sooooo slowly! I feel ill! :imbar

We had to wait for 6 hours after our Pharm final to get the grades. They didn't even give us the exam grades....just the final grade for the whole class. 16 of 46 failed. Some really badly--but I think at least 2 people just didn't take the exam because they knew they couldn't pass. Pharm was horrible. I felt lucky just to get a C. I could go in there thinking I knew all about whatever the test was over, but the questions wouldn't be about what I knew. At least it's over...

Hope you got the grade you wanted/needed on yours!

Well, I made it! We lost 5 out of 30 students and there was only one "A" in the entire class! I can't believe this semester is over...I don't know what to do tonight....feel like I should be studying something!

Susan, congratulations on making it. Enjoy your time off. I know it is hard to think of what to do when you don't have any studying to do.

Take care and good luck next semester!!!

Congratulations Susan!!!! :D :D :D

I'm so glad you made it! I just wish my textbooks would hurry up and arrive so I can start studying ahead (class starts 1/13). Try to relax and enjoy the holidays! Thanks for the update. =)
