Nursing Students General Students

Published

I was reading in the General Discussion BB, where one of the regulars asked everyone to tell us a little bit about themselves. It is a great idea! We are mostly students in here, and we need to get a little background on each other, instead of just the regular whining that we seem to do! I will start. My name is Angie and I am about to beging my third and final year of nursing school. I live in Canada, but plan on relocating to Florida soon after writing my RN's. I have three children. Two boys (5 & 3) , and a little girl (2months). I had my daughter in the last three weeks of second year. Yeesh! My husband is fantastic and has stuck with me for the last ten years. I figure if he sticks around while I am in school....then we are doing all right! When I graduate....I wanna new navy blue Jetta!

Let's get to know each other a little better. Cheers!

Hi! I'm Genevieve, 26 years old from sunny South Florida:cool: I'm an LPN in the ADN (LPN to RN transition program) at Broward Community College. It is a 1 year totally brutal program:eek: I was working at Broward General as an ER Tech for about a year. Since no LPN's work ER. I got the experience I needed, phlebotomy, IV skills, EKG's, working on trauma alerts, by air (via ) helicopter, we have to drive the hospitals ambulance to the helipad which was in the front of the hospital not near the ER. Bad logistics. I had to cut down hours and get a less stressful job while in the RN program, heck I d on't sleep now:sleepy:

I work perdiem as an LPN at a Psych facility working with the adolescents, and in the Chemical Dependence unit. I actually like it a lot. More $$ than working as a tech, & I can study especially at 3-5 am when the patients are asleep. I work about 32 hours a week and go to school 4 days. I'm engaged to a wonderful supportive man. Were getting married after graduation in 2002! We have 2 wonderful kitties! :hello: :kitty: Were closing on our new house this week! It's a 3 bdrm/2.5 bath 2 story house with a garage I can't wait! Good Luck to everyone in their Studies!

My name is Kristin, and I'm a 22 y/o ADN student from the Houston, TX area getting ready to start my 2nd year in the program. I'll graduate in May 2002 (God willing) and hope to work in ER or L&D. I love my nursing program, and I knew from my very first clinical day that this is the place that I'm meant to be (this is a great feeling if you've ever experienced this...)

Thanks for reading...email me sometime - I love having lots of pen-pals.

I'm a first -year nursing student, living in the Albany, NY area. I'm in a hospital program, but I plan on going all the way through to an MSN. My main interest is community health, and I'm looking into certification requirements and educational opportunities in this area. I have 4 kids: Jonathan(18) lives in NC and works for Duke U. He just got his first apartment and I'm going broke buying stuff for him, but it's also really fun. Mikey(14) and Henry (12) live w/ their dad here in NY. I'm all alone w/ my sweet little girl, Carolina (4). My husband is Brazilian and we are awaiting his papers to come here and be with us. We miss him very much. I have moments of wonderful self-confidence, as well as moments of total self-doubt re my capabilities...c'est la vie!! I think all worthwhile ventures in life evoke those feelings...keep the faith!!!

I'm Krista, 29 year old mom to three (5.5, 3.5 and 9 months) in Washington state. I'm hoping to start a community college ADN program in the fall (I should know this week!). If for some reason I don't get in, I'll be going back to Eastern Washington University to finish my BS in biology by spring and I'll go for the BSN program through there for next fall.

I hope to work in L&D for a few years when I'm done (hopefully also qualifying to sit for the IBCLC exam while I'm working -- the lactation consultant certification) then go through the Frontier school and get my CNM and probably also my FNP. Dh and I would really like to live in a rural area, and being a rural practioner really appeals to me, though my first love is pregnancy and birth. :)

Krista

Hi, I am a new RN from FL.

I passed boards last october, and now i am working at a pediatric hospital in a surgical floor. i love it there.

I graduated from broward community college. I am so thankful that they gave me the opportunity to attend the prestigious nursing program there.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Hospice.

I grew up in Southern California, but now live in a medium sized Midwestern city.

Married to my dream man, mother of two (one in college, one pursuing a career in NY City).

I'm 45 years old. I'll graduate this Spring with an ADN and will start working on a med/surg floor after taking a couple of weeks off for a long-awaited trip to a resort with my hub.

I plan on beginning work on the BSN after a couple of semester off. (I feel like I need a break from school while I'm learning how to be a nurse.) Then, I'll start by taking the remaining pre-reqs locally before doing an RN-BSN online through a state university. I hope to have the BSN by my 50th birthday, at which point I'll make my decision on whether or not to pursue the MSN. I'm hoping that, by then, I will have found my niche in nursing and will know whether I need an advanced degree.

Several of my instructors tell me that they see me in education eventually. I tend to agree, but feel that I need a solid foundation in nursing first, which is why I'm starting out in med/surg.

I'm also somewhat interested in ICU, outpatient surgery, hospice, and wound care.
