Nursing Students General Students

Published

I was reading in the General Discussion BB, where one of the regulars asked everyone to tell us a little bit about themselves. It is a great idea! We are mostly students in here, and we need to get a little background on each other, instead of just the regular whining that we seem to do! I will start. My name is Angie and I am about to beging my third and final year of nursing school. I live in Canada, but plan on relocating to Florida soon after writing my RN's. I have three children. Two boys (5 & 3) , and a little girl (2months). I had my daughter in the last three weeks of second year. Yeesh! My husband is fantastic and has stuck with me for the last ten years. I figure if he sticks around while I am in school....then we are doing all right! When I graduate....I wanna new navy blue Jetta!

Let's get to know each other a little better. Cheers!

Hi, My name is Sonja and I am a 33 year old mother of 3. (My kids think I am 29 so don't let on my real age) I live in Alberta, Canada and I am taking my LPN by distance Ed. (I know, but I live in a rural area with no classes close by available.) Besides my 3 children I live with my husband, a cat, a blind dog and a hamster. I am also glad to see so many moms and life experienced people here. i love to read your posts and find a lot of inspiration in them. My age is taking it's toll with A&P as I can understand it, I just can't remember it! ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi! I will finally be starting a nursing program this fall. I have been working on my pre-req's while working full time for eight cardiology doctors at the same time. It has been a long four years. I will graduate with my BSN in 2005. I am going to UMKC they just started this program, so far it has been great. I am married with two dogs, and one cat. So, I don't need kids. They are hard enough to handle. Anyway I am so excited for school to start and to actually go during the day instead of at night. By the way I just turned 29. I want to be 21 again.

Specializes in ER, PACU, OR.

you guys have a pretty broad range of ages. when i was in school......it seemed like mostly 30 and over......lol! i am the one that started the introduction post, and got off-topic off the ground. oh yeah cheri2, you didnt tell them your name? lol...but i know what it is.lol! anyways, there a re a lot of nice people that hang in here (not just the student area). sometimes it helps to get an opinion or help on something from someone experienced (other than your instructor, we've all been through that). there many people that would help ya out here. the introduction's on the off topic isn't restricted to students either ;) anyways, my name is rick.... rn, cen etc etc etc many hang out on icq.....if anybody here uses that....grab my number....and drop me a note.....i'll hook you up with the others numbers also. have a good day.....and everybody keep their chins up.....you'll look back and say "that was it?"

Hi,

I am Annmarie from Kingston Jamaica and will be starting my pre-requisites for the nursing college on the 27th august,2001 at the University of South Florida. I am not quite sure as to what this program entails but I do know that whatever comes I will have to do my best to enter the nursing college.

All my life I want to get a BSN and I know that this is the right time for it. OH! I forgot to tell you that I am married with two kids and also works as a Custom Officer in Jamaica but I will be going to the University full time come august.

My kids are ages 8 and 2, boy and girl respectively. My Husband is an Aircraft Engineer and he has decided to take care of our son in Jamaica while I take my daughter with me to the states.

It is my intention to work in the hospital in the States at the end of my studies or if the immigration permits me to work during my studies to get a feel as to what is going on in this field.

I wish you all the best and it is nice to know that we can always express ourselves here without fear. Have a great future!!

:p Hi I'm Kevin and I am a 37 year old Nationaly Registered Paramedic and start my ADN Program in AUgust of 01. I love the autonmy that EMS gives me but realize some day I am not going to want to take the 400+ lbs patient down three flights of stairs with the same enthuisasm that I have now...lol.

I am the supply officer for the rescue squad where I work at in the Upstate area of South Carolina, and I deal with all the sales reps from the various companies we deal with. Recently one of them made the push on a new stretcher that would hold a 600 pound patient and ithad all these wonderful features. It is really a nice unit except for one thing....it can hold a 600 pound patient. Okay, I know I have a sarcastic sence of humor, but hey if you can't laugh at what you do then you better get out of it while you can or it will consume you!

My hobbies include cooking, fishing, kayacking, boating, motorcycles rapelling when I can, photography hiking, camping, and a good cigar by the fire chased with some good scotch! Wahoo! Currently I am trying to master Fly Fishing and just started into recreational kayacking. Both are testing my coordination to the max! I am Maintenance Warrant Officer in the Army National Guard on my one weekend a month and dread hurricane season every year. I just got through rebuilding an old motorcycle and look forward to having it back on the road soon. Drop me a line some time if your ever bored and want to chat avbout something! Kev

oh man! am i the youngest one here, too? i'm 18 years old...(19 in 2 months!!!!!! :D i live at home with my parents and little sister...i'm enrolled in an adn program.... have no kids but a great bf.... i work at walmart over the summer and on the weekends, if school permits...and i often times find myself wondering if i am the youngest one. the girls (and guys!) in my nursing class all average about 35-ish....there is just me and 3 other girls around my age, 2 are 20 and 1 is 24.... i am on aol instant messenger with the screen name leann7481..drop me a line i would love to chat with you all. :p  :D

I'm 42 and semi-retired musician. I'm just entering my second year of an ADN program here in MN. I'm married with no kids (but 2 great cats). I worked as a professional musician from 1984 until returning to school in 1999. I currently work as a Pharmacy Tech in a local hospital.

It's great to have a place to get answers to some of the million questions that come up in nursing. :)

I guess I could mention I have a degree in Psych and Physical Education that I never did use.

I'm glad there is a place where we can all get to know each other better.

Take care:D

Hey everyone!

My name is Kourtney and I am from Wisconsin. I am 24 and married with a three year old son. I am working towards my ADN and I start my clinicals in fall. I am a little nervous, but mostly excited. I plan on continuing on for my BSN after I graduate. My calling is L&D or NICU- I am completely drawn to those babes!

When I am not annoying my hubby or friends with fascinating (and sometimes graphic) info of the human body (just finished my two semesters of A&P), I like to be outdoors. I love horsebackriding, hiking and snowmobiling. My other love is dogs-we don't have one yet, there's just not enough time to take care of a pup. Besides the hubby vetoed it for now. He likes cats. Gzeesh, so oneday when I get the time and he is asleep I'll bring home a Bernese Mountain Dog :p

I worked as a vet tech for three years and I loved it, but decided I needed more pay, so I got a job at a mortgage company in the call center-Hated It!! So I decided to quit working and stay home with my little son Alec. That was great, but I always wanted to go back to school and be a RN so I started part time in August of 99. It has been the best decision for me. It seemed as though those pre-req's were taking forever, but this past May I finished my last A&P requirement and was admitted into the clinical program. I start August 27. Still can't believe its here. So now I have 5 semesters left ( we go over the summer) and I'll graduate in 2003 God willing! :D

Hope I didn't babble to much.

Lausana,

I just wanted to say that I know how it can be trying to find good child care and go to school too. I am 21 and a single mom and had to shop around for good child care for my daughter and I found good child care. Please remember that if you do not see the same faces don't get too alarm unless it is for bad reasons. I worked in childcare for 3 years before starting nursing school and I still do when I have breaks from school and many people do not stay because of the pay. I only make $6.85 an hour and started out at $5.65 an hour three years ago. Many people do not stay because if you are on your own with no one else too help that can not take care of the bills. I am lucky to where I can stay with my parents. Does your school have a childcare program. If you do not know find out. Many schools have childcare programs. Also be sure to let the financial Aid officers know that you have a child and will have childcare cost if you did not already mention it. Many schools have childcare grants and the government does too not only on the state level but on the federal level too. Many schools and the government are offering the grants especially to single parents and other low-income families so parents can get an education and provide better a life for their children that the parent wants to provide.

Take care and feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

Hi, everyone. I will be graduating May 2002. From New Jersey. I have been married for 10 months, no kids. I do have a cat. Seems like everyone has kids or a cat, I didn't read about even one dog! I am 28 years old and thought I was going to be the oldest person in my class, which was not the case, I am in the middle. I envy the 18 year olds, right out of high school who have made it this far. I would have NEVER been able to do it at that age. :) I was a horrible student in high school, just never really cared. But I am doing great in nursing school (spending A LOT of time studying). I find it really interesting. My husband & family have been really supportive. My hobbie are traveling, cooking (want to share recipes?!), running, & all watersports.
