Dear Bertolozzi, thank you soooo much! You are my hero and encouragement. I struggled with all the prereqs and now will struggle with this exam. I will take your advice (all of it). I will get help on the math from the learning center as soon as school opens again. What semester are you in? Good luck to you. You will be a great nurse! Thank you again for your time and help. Will let you know how it goes, probably February. Have not gotten my letter to test yet. Just turned in my application a week ago for the RN program. Then if I pass this Teas test, I would go into the bridge LVN to RN progtam in June 2008. I have a 23 year old daughter who just got her RN in June. It has taken mom a few years to get there, ha! Take care.

How wonderful for you and your daughter to have so much in common. Please let us all know how you did by updating this post. I will be praying for you.

Thank you for the kind words--but all you need to do to thank a poster is to hit the "thanks" button on the post. To answer your questions, I just finished my first semester of a BSN program at a CSU, and am so looking forward to becoming a nurse as I feel I've found my true calling, albeit late. Am missing doing all my late night reading for school while I am on break, and that's why I am lurking on allnurses.com ......to fill the void; yet when I'm actually IN school I complain about all the reading I have to do.

Don't get too worked up about the TEAS, I know I did and I wish I didn't stress over it as much as I did. I know you will do well, just by the very fact you are being proactive about getting the help you need to refresh (or in some cases learn from scratch) your math skills.

I, like you had not been tested on math basics in forever, but I studied hard. I overdid it as most of the questions on the TEAS test were not that hard....it was the strategy and timing of doing the problems in the amount of time given that was the challenge. Still, there were a couple questions on things I had no idea how to solve (like statistical permutations), but I looked at the answers and used intuition to pick the best option. For some I just took a random guess--especially the physics questions (what pre-nursing student takes physics?). And still, I did really, really well.

At our testing site, there was a line to leave the room to use the bathroom since they only let one of us out at one time. With age and with giving birth to three kids, I have to urinate frequently especially if I'm sitting for long periods of time. I got smart and started raising my hand to get in line to use the restroom after I finished each section. I also made sure to eat an orange and a cliff bar at the break, and it really helped to give me a boost.

Looking back now, taking the test was sorta fun. I logged on constantly to ATI to check my score. And, it was really validating to see how well I had done.

Search for TEAS on allnurses and you should find more threads with good advice. Feel free to PM me with any questions. Look forward to hearing how you do.

Thanks so much guys. I have at least 5 weeks to study, just hope that is enough time to learn the math. I do not do well with math word problems and it seems like that is most of the math on the test. I am going to buy the online test too since most of you said it helps. Why does becoming a nurse have to be so hard~~!!!! Some days I think maybe I should just stay an LVN. But I can't afford to live on $16/hr. The other issue I have is that there is physics on this test and that is a prereq I never was required to take. Just hope the test is not as bad as the book. Ha Ha. God bless you all and Happy New Year!!!

oh I know I got so mad doing the science portion, I have done great on all my science pre reqs, but when I got the guide and noticed there were so many questions not related to "medical" science I was so frustrated. There were a lot of earth science, physical science on the exam and the study guide, I seriously found the science the hardest. Math was ok but the guide really will help a lot, and 5 weeks is plenty of time. In the end they map out your scores and how you did against others in the nation taking the exam. I did really well overall scored way higher then the "national" scores, in all areas except English, which is my worst subject, I did pass though so no problems LOL.

good luck!

I took the TEAS Two time and I FAILED!! I Am really getting Frustrated and ****** off. The study guide was terrible!!!!!!! The questions had NOTHING do with what was on the exam......I tired looking online for practice questions they have on the exam but couldn't find anything..... I am very close to changing my major to something else. Is there any advice anyone can give me? I have one last try to take the exam for the college i want to go to.

Time is the major problem. If i had a good amount of time i can score 100%. I took the test but i wasn't happy with my first score and now my retake is coming soon. The math isn't that hard but when it comes to doing problems under minute i have trouble with it. I thinking about timing myself in the math section. The book isn't that great to study off. i was wondering if there is an anther study guide. I also had trouble with the science section i need to review that to. I hope all goes well when the time comes. If anyone has any suggestions on how i can study please let me know. THANK YOU.
