Hi All,

After 20 years dreaming about this and the last 6 months going through the admission process at my school - I finally take the Nursing Entrance Exam Tuesday Night. Judging by the 200 page study guide I've been going over - it's going to be a doozie!!!

For some reason at age "42" I'm much better at studying and retaining information than when I was younger - maybe because so much is riding on this. I bought a Biology Crash Course book and read the entire thing in one night - I was shocked at how much more interesting it all was now than when I was taking it in high school and college years ago. Gee, who knew a Biology book could be such a "page-turner"? :)

I took the sample test in the book and did really well on everything except Chemistry - never took many chemistry courses, so I'll just do the best I can on that part of the exam. The last 6 months have been really stressful - sort of like living in limbo. I wish after the exam as you're walking out they'd just say - you're in or you're out. It would be so much less painful that way than waiting another month to find out where you stand.

Anway, I want to join the rest of you in the Class of 2006 and will do my very best on Tuesday - it's my only shot at the exam this year. I spent 6 years in the Navy working on the Wards and absolutely loved it - found my true calling. I know in my Heart I have what it takes to be a Great Nurse - just have to be one of the lucky ones to get a slot for the Fall.

Please send some good thoughts my way - Thank You, SusanNC - Future RN

Hi Susan....from another Susan :)

Just wanted to wish you good luck. Sounds like you are very very well prepared for your entrance exam. I took my extrance exam at age 50 last year so I'm sure you'll do just fine. Keep up the good thoughts & I'll be thinking about you on Tuesday. Let us know how you make out!

Cheers

Best of luck to you!! :)

SusanNC,

I took the NET last week, there were no chemistry questions on it. The test was 50% math and 50% reading comprehension. My NET Composite Score was 94%. I am going to retake the test once more before the application deadline (May 15th) to see if I can make a better score. The test results were given at the end of the test, a printed copy of the results was provided. The school I am applying to accepts the highest test score with the GPA added in to determine selected applicants. Good Luck!

Wishing you all the best!! :)

Susan,

I took the NET back in November and didn't have any chemistry ques. It still was tough, though. Be prepared for the math. That is what got me. Are you trying to get into James Sprunt? That's where I applied and had to take the NET. :p

NET or NLN..

just got my results back from NLN and did a lot better than I thought.

If you are committed and study hard you should be fine

Good luck, Susan!!

I have taken the NLN twice (once this year, once several years ago) and there was a lot in the Science section on electricity, believe it or not. Stuff about Ohms and basic electricty properties. I felt like I was in the wrong room - going for my Master Electrician's license or something! :chuckle j/k

Are you taking the NLN, or the NET? Either way, it sounds like you have a great start, and will do well. :)

Thanks Everyone, I really apprciate it. Actually the school I've applied to calls their entrance exam the "TEAS" (just my rotten luck, something they just started this year) chemistry, algebra, A&P, biology, reading, english, electricity (good grief) - I'm going nuts trying to soak up all this information - it's like taking the SAT's. All I can do is my best and I hope that's good enough to get in. Thanks again, SusanNC

If I were you I'd head to Office Depot and get one of those SAT practice CD's. I bought one and it's a great refresher course. They also give great tips on how to get a good score. I wish you the best of luck on your test.

Just one question though, what kind of admissions process did you have to go through?

Good luck to you Susan! I'll be sending some good thoughts, vibes, and preferably prayers your way on Tuesday night! I'm in your shoes, after so many years of wanting to start nursing school, it looks like it's going to be a reality after the entrance exams.

My thoughts are with you!!!!!

Katherine
