i was wondering if most nursing schools honor prereqs that have been taken a 2nd time... i took 2 prereq classes as an undergrad for my 1st degree and got both B's in them... i am planning on taking these 2 again so i can hopefully get A's and increase my chances.. can someone tell me how exactly do nursing school admissions calculate the grades of classes that have been taken twice??

Hi! It probably depends on the program. My school allows you to take classes over once, even the Nursing Core classes. I don't think it should be a problem.

it depends- some may take your most recent grade only, some average the two grades together. i had to retake chem b/c as an undergrad i failed it the first time, retook it and got a D the second time- and only after college did i manage to retake it a third time and get an A. i hope that's worth something to the schools!

Our school just recently decided to use that as an admission criteria. Apparently their applications have jumped tremendously, and they need an additional way to select students....so, anyone who has taken a pre-req a second time doesn't get in.

Although, the system is that if you FAIL a pre-req and have to take it again, then you lose out. I have no idea if they consider it the same thing if you simply choose to re-take it to better an already acceptable grade.

Best thing to do is ask the school.

You'll have to ask your school to see what they do specifically, but at my school you can repeat them if you like with best grade used. I had to retake all of my core science prereqs because too many years had lapsed since the first time around. Where I go you cannot have more than 7yrs, which is a pain but it really is the right idea! Gotta know the science. SG

yah, all schools have different policies, i know one of the schools i applied to accepts the better of the two grades, but only if the first attempt was below a C, so for a school like that it wouldnt help to retake B classes. but you really have to check with each school.

Every school is different, you may want to speak with a guidance counselor at your school.
