Student Teaching Presentation

  1. i did my presentation today. i spoke to a mixed group [pregnant, have a baby or neither] of teen students about contraceptives.

i enjoyed the experience and the answers to my posttest questions signified the students listen.

if you have or will do a teaching project this semester [or prior], what was/will be your topic and how did it go?

I had to do one last semester. It was hygiene for 4th graders...including dental, hand, and body (lice and all the goodies).

    Kids were great.

We had to do one like that last year. This year we recieved a grant from the county to teach smoking prevention to fourth graders. They were great. I couldn't believe how much they already knew, and they were very receptive to the topic.

Just out of curiosity -- what semester are you all in? & is it an ADN or BSN program? I was just wondering if most schools have you do a "public" teaching project??!! I'm in 1st semester & we've only done teaching projects with our patients, so I was just wondering if this is something I have to "look forward" to?!! (I absolutely hate public speaking!!!!):imbar

We did a teaching project for our Psych unit--Anger and Stress Management, and I kid you not, a fist fight broke out between two patients smack in the middle of it.

Sorry missed the last couple of threads. I'm in my last semester of a BSN. And I think that most schools require some kind of teaching presentation whether to a group on your unit or out in public.

I've had to do 5 presentations to my classes so far, as well. At first I hated it so much. Now, I'm used to it and it's just another stupid thing to get off my list of things to do.

I'm in my 2/4 semesters in a BSN program, and this semester we did a group teaching project. We taught parents dental care for their children. The teaching project actually went really well. Now we are finishing up our paper to turn in for our grade.

In our last semester, we do individual teaching projects. I'm not looking forward to that. I really prefer to do stuff like this in groups. Oh well...I'll get through it.

Good luck to all who are teaching!!!!

Hygiene seems to be a pretty in-demand topic! :chuckle

We had three this semester. Skin cancer for med surg, do it next week. HTN prevention to a mental health day program, went fine and Street Drugs, health effects to a ghroup of inmates, went fine. I think the group ones are pretty fun actually.

I'm first semester and had to do smoking cessation to low income/homeless population, incision care/wound care for my clinical group and then a meds post conference on antibiotics.

Next week I have to do a one on one with a diabetic about proper nutrition, exercise and skin care r/t diabetes.

I enjoy this part of it b/c I would love to be a teacher if nursing didn't work out. So it's kind of the best of both worlds I get to do the two things I love

We did a Health Fair at our college. We were divided into groups of 2-4 and had to research the target group we would be presenting to, choose a relevant health issue, and prepare materials and an education plan for the fair. My group chose alcohol and drunk driving for our education and prevention topics. It was a lot of work, but we ended up really having fun with it. In general we all got a lot of good feedback from students and faculty that attended.

I'm in the last semester of an ADN program.
