Struggle with GPA

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hi, dear, I am currently studying my prerequisites of nursing program.

My GPA is not competitive.:(My first language is not English.

I am planing to apply the Generic and accelerate of BSN of UCF next Jan.

My overall GPA is 3.4. Prerequisites is 3.6 and not take TEAS test.

Is there someone's GPA around mine accepted to UCF?

Should I think about applying private nursing school?

which one require high GPA, the concurrent or the generic program?

Thanks.

IMO. You should not do an accelerated program if you are struggling to maintain your gpa in undergrad classes. It does not get easier. IMHO I think you should consider regular programs as opposed to an accelerated program.

Yes, correct. Thanks a lot.

Choosing to ignore your sarcasm. My point is that quicker does not always equal better. It's better to slow it down a bit because you need to not only understand but think critically about the pathophysiology of your patients. You need to give yourself the best chance possible so that you can be the best nurse possible.

I just looked up the program requirements for UCF's BSN program and it says applicants only need a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. I would apply for their program as well as others. And like slinkyheadCNA said, it's probably not a good idea to apply for the accelerated program. Have you really looked into their program? There's a PDF page that tells you all about their application process and their requirements here. Make sure you have everything you need. Good luck! :)

Thank you, chanteurdelamour. Yes, They require a minimum overal GPA of 3.0. The thing is the program is limited access. If your GPA is not better than other applicant. You will not be picked up. I read a lot about in this website's forum most of applicants' GPA around3.8. Mine is only 3.4. I am so nervous.

Just because the minimum is 3.0 doesn't mean that they won't get lots of applicants with GPAs much higher than that, and they'll go for them first.

I agree, take the generic, slower-paced program.

With all good wishes, I 'd like to offer you some more advice: while you're waiting to get in, seriously consider a good college-level ESL program to help you with written English. You'll really, really need better English than you have to succeed at this.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't apply though. Apply anyway! Apply for everything you meet at least the minimum of. If you don't try you are certainly not going to be looked at. Just go for it, but make sure you have other options too. There are plenty of good nursing programs out there.

Thanks, Chanteurdelamour. UCF does need a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, however, even some students gpa is 3.5 or 3.6. They can not enter because there are a lot students' GPA higher than that. UCF picks up the best. This is what I am concern.
