I'm just wondering what you all can recommend to buy in advance of starting school? I've got scrubs on my list (school allows you to buy your own!), shoes, stethoscope, paper/pens etc...
Anything else I can buy up front?

I got my made incredibly easy books at Barnes & Noble, Borders, school book store, amazon, etc.
The made easy books simply break down the information that is presented in textbooks into something that is easier to understand.
You won't beleive what made me get these books...The nurses station at one of the hospitals I did clinical at, had them and they were constantly used.
I swear by these books.. I also have the computer program for the med/surg. It ask nclex type questions then gives complete rationals for answers.
So far I have Med/Surgical nursing made incredibly easy Isbn # 1-58255-269x,
I love that book. Fluids & Electrolytes made incredibly easy- ISBN #1-58255-136-7, and Maternal-Neonatal nursing made incredibly easy- ISBN# 1-58255-268-1. They cost about $35 each. If I had bought the med/surg book first, I wouldn't have bought the fluid & electrolytes one. It is a good book, but the material is covered in the med/surg one. The maternal one is awesome.
I plan to purchase the NCLEX made incredibly easy book next.

I also love the Made Incredibly Easy books. I have Physical Assessment, Nursing Procedures, Dosage Calculations, Fluid and Electrolytes and the Med/Surg cd-rom. You can buy them used for less. Try http://www.fetchbook.info/ to compare prices.

So what's a good Care Plan book? And I've heard it's good to also have a NCLEX study guide to follow along w/ in school...any ideas out there about which ones are better than others?
