..and usually, the worst time for me is when I wake up from a nap. Since nursing school started, power naps have become "power comas" for me. I sleep very deeply, and when my alarm goes off, I usually awaken very suddenly and get that "jumped out of my skin" feeling. Well, I also get a bad nicotine craving when I jump out of bed.
However, instead of lying to myself, rationalizing a trip to 7-11, or any other nonsense; today, I got out of bed, walked to my bag, and actually used the nicotine gum.
That's it.
No horse and pony show here.
But.. it's a huge step in the right direction for me and for that, I am quite pleased :)

Congratulations! As an ex-smoker still enjoying the nicotine lozenges (way past time I stopped), I totally sympathize with you and want to wish you continued success.
Oh, and I vote you rename this thread "So, I'm day two on quitting smoking for the last time."

Yay! I'm not a smoker, but I've seen my mom try to quit numerous times. I know it's hard and you're a brave person for attempting it during such a stressful time.
Best of Luck!
I live in Hicksville.. Nassau County. But I have at least one, if not two friends in East Islip.
And thanks for the congrats :)

I used to keep the nictotine gum in my bedside table so I could pop one in my mouth before my feet even hit the floor. Good luck to you!

16 years later I am still a non-smoker. But it started with one day, then two days... you CAN do this! Congrats to you!

Well your not alone. I got out of clinicals today and wanted to smoke badly. I'm thinking about really trying to stop this time. After seeing so much suffering in the hospital I said I dont want to be in this condition. I better stop smoking. It has been 2 days as well. Its a start and we can do it. I have been feeling the crave now for about 3 hrs, lol. I'm trying to stop cold turkey. I have stop before for like 2 months. Then another time 15 days. But this time I hopefully will not go back! Remember your not alone!

I quit 14 months ago. Keep it up.
It's not the physical addiction that kept getting me. It was the psychological addiction. I associate THIS time with smoking. Or that time. There is a commercial about that on TV now - if you can retrain your moments you associate with smoking, you can quit.
I used to bring my laptop out on the front porch in the mornings after work and smoke a few cigs while I posted to allnurses. NOW, I post nicotine-free from the comfort of my bedroom!

Good for you. My dad was a smoker and so I truly get how hard it is to do, but you and your family will be so much better off for it.
I support you 100%. Keep it up!!
Best regards,
Jean
