Should I take 223 and 251 concurrently?

Hello,

I just started the pre-nursing program at UNLV. I already took Chemistry, and am taking BIO 189 this summer. No one offers 223 (A&P 1) for second summer, so I have to take it next semester. My issue is that I'm considering taking 223 and 251 (Micro) at the same time, because if I don't it will tag on another semester (due to everything being linear) If I take those two next semester, I can apply as soon as next summer. Everyone tells me how difficult it is, and I really need an A in both classes in order to be considered for the program. For those of you that have taken both, what would you recommend? Would taking them at the same time be too difficult? I hear I basically would have no life, but I imagine that's what it's like to be in the program anyways. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

P.S I want to apply sooner rather than later because I'm already 27. I know that's not old, but even at this rate I won't be done until I'm 30.

It depends on your aptitude for science and willingness to study hard. I took A&P II and Micro the same semester and got A's in both.

Oh, and I had a life too, and a full time job. You can do it!

No no no you are not too old. Now stop that nonsense.

Ten years from now an extra semester or two will look totally trivial. Just do what needs to be done to do well, and stop worrying about birthdays. They'll all happen anyway.

It could be done if your driven. Nursing school is harder than both of those combined. So that would be good practice!

I did it at CSN with a total of 19 credits and a two jobs. Still had time to have a life. Time management darling.

Good day:

I took AP2, Microbiology, Nutritional Science, and LifeSpan Development the same semester; I'm thankful that I did well in all of them. I'm not sure if I would have done as well in Microbiology if I did not take AP1 previously as a number of the concepts tied with AP1. It actually helped to take Micro, Nutrition, and AP2 together as often times I would learn one subject in one, finish, to start the same concept in the other. So it really drilled in some of the areas such as metabolism (especially), and digestion. BTW, it did mean almost no social life; but it was worth it.

Thank you.

For the same reasons you mentioned, I took AP1 and Micro in the semester. I got an A in both, but I wasn't taking any other classes. I thought AP2 was easier than AP1, so maybe you could take AP2 and micro at the same time.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the responses!

So here's the thing, it's about picking the lesser of two evils. So far I have to take 223, 224 and 252 for Biology. Nurs 299 (lifespan) and the only other general ed is KIN 300 (for a statistics class) and Math 120 (I took it when I was 18 and got a C) If I don't take ap I with micro this semester, then I'll have to take Micro, ap II and nurs 299 next semester. I'm not worried about 299, but I know it requires a lot of writing, which I'm natural at, but I know it's rather time consuming.

I'm just getting back into the swing of things with school, as I haven't been in a number of years. A certain life event happened to me in December while living in CA, and I up and decided that I wanted to fulfill my dream sooner rather than later, so I left everything I had in CA and moved back to Vegas (where I grew up) I applied back to UNLV, I honestly didn't think they would accept me in time for spring, or at least I wouldn't be able to register for classes, then BAM accepted and started school in January. It was all very fast. I was a journalism/PR major before, so I've never taken a science class in my life, and the only one I got into last semester was Chemistry. It was very hard, and I lagged in the middle of the semester, but managed to get an 88%. I'm not stoked about my grade, and might have to take it again, but at least BIO 189 is a breeze now.

I have good application for science, but I have a tough time memorizing. I'm taking this summers 8 week course as practice to finding the best way to study for ME.

I'm really happy I found this forum, it's been super helpful. I think I can do it if I really figure out time management, and dial in my meal prepping. I also coach CrossFit, and I think I'll be able to fit everything into the days to survive, I just won't be able to leave town for any reason. I've done enough partying in my life, I feel as though I'm ready to take this on, and I think it is good practice for the program!!!!

All other input is very helpful!!!! any tips would be SUPER appreciated. I REALLY want into the UNLV program, and I know how competitive it is, so I know this time I have to give it my all.

So you took API and Micro at the same time at CSN? Would you recommend taking micro with APII (like some other posters) or was it good taking API and micro? Also, I went to your profile and it says you work as a CNA, is that because you prefer it? Thanks
