Should I....?

Updated Jun 03, 2009 at 10:51 AM by tracyd77

Ok, so I'm purchasing my books and uniforms for NS and I have 2 questions. And, I am probably over analyzing this and it may not make any difference which I go with, but I would like some feed-back from other nursing students.

(1) Should I save money & purchase used books, that have the CD & other materials included?
OR
Should I spend the extra money & get brand new books? Is there any REAL upside to having brand new books that I'm not thinking of?

(2) Should I purchase the uniform top that is button-up and a one-piece back?
OR
Should I get the top that is zip-up with a three-piece back "for perfect fit"?
(I'm small chested with high hips so I'm leaning towards the three-piece back so it would be adjustable, but
I'm worried about the zipper closure...)

THANKS!

I confess that most of the books I bought were new because I liked them that way. But I had more money than sense.

New or used for me depended on the online content. If I could get to it without a code, I went used. If I needed the code, then I only bought used if the code had not been scratched off, that way I could garantee it hadn't been used. Otherwise I bought new. I found the online content to be as helpful as the text itself. It cost more to buy a used book and then pay for the online access.

I bought a mixture of books, if I could find some that weren't highlighted I would buy used books.

I say always buy used if you can. As for uniforms, go to a uniform store and try them on!

My personal preference has been:

UNIFORM: buy the zip up...it's the kind I have...and sounds like our body types are similar. It is very comforable and has a nice fit without bunching up and wrinkling.

BOOKS: I ALWAYS buy new...yes, I know it costs more...but I want a fresh clean book that I can highlight what I think is important and make my own side notes....not rely on what someone else has highlighted or written..because it may not always be accurate. I also keep all my books...instead of selling them back...that way I have them to refer back to if needed.

Me too! I'm so OCD over my books...they have to be new because it bothers me if someone else's notes or highlights are in the book. And I never sell back my nursing books for the same reason.
However, if price is really an issue for you, buying used is just as good. As long as it's the book you need for that class, new or used isn't going to matter.
But, if your crazy like some of us...
