Sentara 2017 Start Date

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I am planning to apply to Sentara College of Health Sciences for their 2017 start date. I am making this thread in hopes that I will find some other people applying for this start date so that I can get a better idea of the GPA and teas scores that others have that are applying. I was also hoping to get advice from current or former Sentara students regarding the admissions process and teas testing. Also any important information about the program and deadlines. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi! You left this message so long ago, I hope you still check for replies. I am also applying this Spring for the 2017 start date. Hopefully more hopeful students join this thread as well! I just took my TEAS V test for the first time, I went in without studying and got a 76. Kevin suggests to take it like that and then figure out what you need to study for the second time. So I am going to schedule my second test date after I get the study manual (which I ordered off of Amazon). I am re-taking two of the 6 main classes to get better grades, A&P1 and Developmental Psych, which are both C's at the moment, but will hopefully be A's by the end of this semester. Good luck to everyone:)

My email let me know that someone had replied!! So great to hear from someone else applying when I am. I am about to schedule my first teas test date, and I'm a little nervous for it! I have a few quick questions if you don't mind answering some of them that would be super helpful to me! Which location did you test at and were you also told there is no time period you have to wait before retaking the test for the second time? A 76 is not bad at all to have not studied for the test. I have purchased the manual and looked over it just a little bit. I will have to post back after I take the teas and receive my score. Feel free to share any helpful tips or information about your experience signing up/ taking the teas! I need all the tips I can get.

Also I have taken all of the classes required to apply for the program but I have not yet submitted my application. I received A's in all of the classes "required" to apply, except for A&P 1 where I got a B!

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my board post, once again it is so nice to hear from someone dealing with the same process as me. :)

I tested at the Norfolk location because that was closest for me. It was kind of hard to find because my GPS didn't bring me directly there. I don't believe there is a time period to take the test a second time. One thing I'll tell you is that there's no calculator to use for the math section, which I was surprised by because another nursing entrance exam, HESI, allows you to use a simple calculator. I'm rusty on math, so I need to look back at long division and simple things. Certainly not hard math, but I've always hated it. I hear a lot about people running out of time on math. Math was my lowest scoring section! Reading and Grammar were both easy. The passages aren't long so you should have enough time. Science seemed fairly "easy". Scientific Reasoning section hurt me but I had high scores on the other sections in science. But great job on doing so well on your 6 classes! If I get A's this semester, I'll have 4 A's and 2 B's. Sentara counselor just told me to re-take the 'C' classes....I hope he was right! Last year, the average TEAS score was 85.5+ on admitted students. Good luck on taking yours! You got this!! Did you finish all of the courses that are not pre-reqs as well?

Hello! Sorry my reply is so late. Hopefully you'll see this. In response to your last question no I have no finished my classes that are no prereqs yet. After this semester I still have to take 3 classes (that aren't required to apply) but I will be taking them in the Fall. I just got my scores back for my first attempt at the TEAS and I received a 76.7%.. Funny because you got a 76 on your first try too. I did score above the national and program mean in all 4 sections so I am happy about that. Hoping my second time around I can do close to or better than the 85.5% Sentara states as their mean for acceptance. My worst section was math. I managed to score in the 88 & 89 percentile for science so I'm happy about that. I haven't scheduled my second TEAS yet, but I'm planning on taking it toward the end of April / beginning of May. Have you retaken your TEAS for the second time yet?? What was your score?? And do you know how to find out what your combined score is between the two test? Is it given to you on the score transcript or do you not have a way of finding it out. Good luck if you have not already retaken the TEAS V!! :)

I haven't re-taken the TEAS yet! I'm going to re-take it after I finish my classes this semester. That is funny how we both got 76's! I'm definitely hoping to go up about 15 points which is incredibly do-able! Sentara is within our reach:) good luck studying for the second round!

Hi there! I'm currently a senior in the sentara program and saw that you guys are preparing your applications for upcoming Spring semester. Just thought I would say hi and ask if you have any questions about the process. I'll be happy to answer any questions I can [emoji16]

I hope you are doing well with your application process to Sentara! :) I retook my TEAS this week and got a 78.7%! My score increased but not as much as I wanted it to. Have you retaken yours yet?

Hello! I am so glad you decided to comment on this post. I just recently turned in my application and finished with both of my attempts on the TEAS test! If I think of any questions along the way I will be sure to post here to see if you can help me!

As of right now I just have two main questions! What did you score on your TEAS test and do you know how anyone else scored that was accepted into the program?

My other question is did you receive any type of confirmation that they received all of the parts of your application and TEAS scores? I'm just curious if I will ever be told that they received it all or if that is something I should check up on.

If you have any tips or anything that you want to share about the application process or the program definitely share it with me! I'd love to hear about it.

Congrats on being a senior! Hopefully that will be me eventually!

@km123 hi there! For your first question I scored an 85 on the TEAS and had a 3.9 GPA going into the program. Just about everyone I know in my class was around an 80 or above on the TEAS and most of us had a 3.7 or higher GPA. This program is pretty selective, but fair, when it comes to getting in. For your second question you don't really get any confirmation per say, but you can get a hold of the recruiters and they will confirm if they have everything they need from you. The staff at the college are the most helpful group of people I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. If you have any other questions just let me know [emoji16]

Hello All! I am applying for the Jan 2017 start date and I am so nervous!! I have seen a lot of people talking about their TEAS exam scores. I just took the exam last week and got a 78% and immediately scheduled to take it again because I know I can do better. I ended up running out of time on the reading and math sections and just having to click answers. :( My prereq GPA is a 3.7, so I am hoping that will help a bit. I am really hoping I am competitive but I know it all depends on the applicant pool.

@lakmom12, thank you for the insight into the program! When I visited the campus last year everyone seemed so friendly and I loved that. Good luck everyone!!!

I am applying as well! Super nervous and i dont take my teas test until last minute so i only have one shot. This was a last minute thing as i just found out about the program. Im super nervous about it. My gpa is 3.9 for the 6 courses. But i doubt i will get a good teas score with barely studying. So i guess we will see.
