Second week of RN school

  1. 1 We had an exam on the second week of school! I panicked and didn't make a very good grade! I feel like I'm a failure. Anyone been there before? I've always had awesome grades and though I know nursing school is a different language I can't help but feel a little down. Any words of wisdom or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I remember my first day of nursing school.....so many years ago. I cried because I needed to read about 250 pages and it was only the first day! I felt so behind!! Then I sat down and started to read.....and eventually I got through. Good luck, and concentrate on the immediate concerns.

I remember my first semester as well. Terrible. It's all brand new and you have no idea what is going on or how to study. I failed my first nursing test as well and I think there are others here who can say the same. it happens. I'm entering my last semester of nursing school and I am still very stressed. I would say first of all to start studying nclex questions and the rationales. They help alot!!! Can I ask you what class it is and how you studied? I can give pointers better if I knew

Take it one day sometimes one minute at a time. I am going on my third semester and I am just as nervous as I was in my first semester. I had a clinical instructor that had a great motto that I still use "stress now, stress later, or don't stress at all." I totally agree with previous poster practice NCLEX questions. Good luck and take care of yourself!!

Well I'm in Oklahoma and we go by nursing 1118 and 2118 and so forth! I'm in 1118. Learning about vital signs and cultural issues...things that should come easy to me! I just felt so discouraged. But I'm starting to practice more NCLEX styled questions. I've always been a great student so it was hard for me to swallow that grade. Nursing is definitely a different language lol! Thank you so much for your advice and sharing your experience. It have me that push I needed! Anything else you can think of, please enlightenment me

Thank you all for your encouraging words and advice!!! It gave me hope again! In my heart I truly feel like I'm meant to do nursing but doubted myself after the first exam. I'm starting to practice on NCLEX styled questions and figuring out new ways to study. I'm going to take it day by day

Hey I think every nursing student has experienced that traditional "bombing " of the first test. Not to worry. Once you get the hang of the new way of thinking and the language you will be fine. Good luck.

My entire class bombed our first test.... Or two. I am currently starting my last semester & am in the top 3 in my class. Don't worry and do NOT give up. Your study habits will come to you. If you have the desire and drive, you will make it. One test does not break you. It's a learning experience. Keep your head up!

If you have trouble with your next test seek help with your tutoring center. As a former nursing tutor I have to toot our own horns, we can make a difference, but only if people ask for it. The major problem I had was when people came in at the end of the semester with 1 test left and stated they had to get like a 96% on the final to pass the class.

Tutoring center is just between you and the tutor, there should be no stigma or issue with getting help.

I remember in my A & P II class, many of the students were first semester nursing students, and they said they would go home and cry everyday. They were always talking about one particular instructor being difficult. I guess I would cry every day too if I was trying to do A & P II at the same time as Nursing school. Thank goodness I have all those co reqs done, I think I will cry maybe just a little less, but I anticipate a few breakdowns are coming my way.

Thank you! I will definitely find a tutor if by the next exam I don't do what I think I am capable of doing! Ill do anything just to make me a better test taker.

Oh yes! I've already had two breakdowns lol! Thankfully I have all my pre reqs out of the way but it still doesn't make it any easier! Best of luck when you start
