School $ Question

  1. Help I'm in an awful fix! I am suppose to start the bridge program this summer. With only 3 semesters left, I am unable to recieve financial aid. I've sent an appeal letter and they have denied me.
Here's my question.........I need at least $5000. to finish school. Does anyone know of any alternative lending places for school money?
My spouse is also going to school, and he DOES recieve FA. We are in a big fight about it all now. He wants me to quit school, and try to get back in NEXT summer. Heck, if I quit I probably won't ever go back. It took me 12 years to go back this time after LPN school. Any advice?

It's like this, long story short, In 1988 went to RN school (at this same place) was a single mother of 2 (no excuses just facts), didn't make it past med surg 2, left and went on to LPN school.
In 1988, the school was on the quarter system, required a lot more core class which racked up 5 credits/each. Now they say I have to many credit hours. The FASA ok'd the money, the SCHOOL says no. I don't understand this since I've paid back ALL of my student loans and don't owe anything. Like I said I'm in a bind and not sure if I quit will have the umph to go back next year. Please my hubby will be bridging next summer and I DO NOT want to get into that issue w/ him. He thinks I'm being mean, but we both cannot work full-time and school full-time and be civil to each other.

I'm thinking there is a way! A type of loan for people who've exhausted all other ways...but I'll have to dig around & see if I'm not just imagining I read that somewhere!

I think the term is 'alternative loans' basically they cover what the other don't or if you've used other options up...

Here's a couple links but I'm sure there's many more if you do a search by your state.

    NurseDianne,
Most schools want your money and they will help you find it. Have you gone to the financial aid dept where you will be attending? They may have some creative ideas for you. Also, have you looked into scholarships?

Have you checked what local hospitals are offering, if anything? I work as an extern and my hospital pays me up to $1000 per year towards tuition (with no obligation to work there after I graduate). I am pretty stressed out this semester, so I'm only working one or two days per month.

do you know any of your instructors well enough to confide all this to them? i ask because one of my past instructors was just telling me that she had an exceptional student that suddenly lost her financial aid for whatever reason. the instructor went to the financial aid office and told them to find the money somewhere. and sure enough a "grant" came through for this student. just something to ponder.

If worst comes to worst you can always make small payments on the tuition until some money comes through. At least you can start classes.

what about where you already work, dianne. don't give up yet. there are times when "blocks" are put in our way for us to give up because it is much easier than "fighting" for our goals.

if i hear of anything, i will post it. keep the faith!

    Hi!

Have you tried talking to the manager of Financial Aid office. I had a similar problem, only I had accumulated to many credits with no degree and had to drop classes several times because life kept interfering. The school put me on Financial Aid suspension. I went to the manager of Financial Aid and explained my situation and He approved my appeal. Good Luck!
