Required to keep books?

  1. 0 My school said in orientation that we're not allowed to sell our books until we graduate from the program. They said we will need them for reference later. Has anyone else's program said this? Did you keep all of your books? I was planning on keeping some of them but not the ones like Transcultural Nursing. I have a friend hopefully starting in the next cycle so I was going to sell mine to her. Maybe I should keep them?

We got a list before first semester for the entire program. I bought them all and just planned on keeping them through the program, since that is how it is set up for us. There wasn't a formal "Do not sell your books", but it was implied.

I personally see little value to keeping most of the books.

That said, I kept all of mine simply because I wasn't sure and they had revisioned up by the time I graduated. I still have the electronic versions, though - not that I often find any use for them, particularly since they're licensed only to one machine at a time and use a proprietary format.

Nope, I try to sell all my books as soon as I can. I also stopped buying the latest version of the
    required textbook to save money.

Money is tight and I want to save every penny I can.

I used the same med surg textbook and peds textbook all through my AAS program. I saved that and the peds books. I haven't used them much since.

That may be why they're saying "Don't sell them"

I save my books for reference later, and we have used them throughout the program at different times.

We were also encouraged to keep our books but there was no formal "do not sell". That being said, we have DEFINITELY used our books from the first semester through the rest of the program. I'm getting ready to start my 4th (and final! woo hoo!) semester next week and I have seen the syllabus, which uses the same books. The nice thing is that you don't have to worry about buying too many new ones. Just hang on to them for now and sell them when you're done. Good luck!

Some of our books have been used every semester (nutrition, lab values, care plan book, stuff like that) but others it's a 1 semester thing. But I don't sell mine back either, dunno why.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I was looking forward to get some of that money back for books but I would hate to bug my friend to borrow the copy I sold her

We keep and use our books for several semesters. It's better to just suck it up and decide to keep them, especially in a program they have already told you that you will use them again.

I like going back for reference in several of mine. They all have tabs with quick reference stuff I need.

We were told that it is "highly recommended" to keep all of our books, and a few are required for us to keep.
