I make sure the TV is on BUT the volume must be set at zero!!!! There must be no open doors or windows. If the air conditioner is too loud, I turn it off until I finish studying. I have to have ABSOLUTE quiet! If you have a cold or suffer from allergies that causes you to cough, sneeze, sniff, or whatever, GET OUT!!!:headphone:

I got my RN at 45 after 24 years of an extremely stressful LPN career. I'm working on the BSN now. I have to read, read, and reread just to grasp the meaning of a simple paragraph. With every little sound I hear, it means yet another read! This is my last rodeo with school and I'm struggling to get it done before the big 5-0 and Alzheimers sets in. So, quiet, I say, QUIET!!!:bookworm:

Wow. Do I completely understand what you're saying! I literally have to go throughout the whole house and silence anything that might make noise to be able to study. This is of course an exercise in futility since I'm the father of a 14 month old kiddo and married to a very lovely Italian wife who knows little of talking softly, but I digress...

If the doorbell rings and the dogs bark all that information I just interpreted, processed, and attempted to retain just went out the window faster than that encyclopedia salesman pressed the button (note to self: I really should disable the doorbell).

And I also hate re-reading paragraphs! My life seems to include the exercise of trying to study and retain some information only to have my significant other tell me that Home Depot has the grout in the color she fancies on sale for the 200th time and how absolutely awesome that is. Really? Life or death as expressed in grout -- or that test that encompasses 35% of my semester grade that I really am trying to study for?! :grumpy:

*sigh*

Thanks for the comfort of allowing me to know that I'm not alone, Lyndaa.

P.S. I'm nearing your age too.. are we just old? ;)

:roflmao:I just had to laugh at your Italian statement! Based on what I've seen on TV, I can only imagine.:roflmao:

Old???? No way! (But I did mail my brother a walking cane for his over-the-hill birthday (50) party. Knowing him, I'll be getting that back when I turn 50, but instead of passing it on to another brother, I might actually need it. :nailbiting:!)

I think years of responsibility and in my case, working in med/surg for more years than I can count has deducted a few brain cells with every punch of the clock.

See, like now, I need to be working on assignments but the neighbors are mowing the lawn and I hear every turn the mower makes...and these are huge lots in this subdivision. So, I will either go walking or go to work. Guess which one I'll choose?:roflmao: Wait....the mower just stopped! Oh well, it must have been debris in the yard because it started back up again. Dang! Well, I'm off to the park!

LOL, this is such a good pick me up after a very stressful patho test this past week. The majority of the class failed it!

I got an 88 but he only has 4 test for the whole grade so it was 1/4 of my grade. I can absolutely recover from that and still get an A. For those that failed....

Exactly what you said! Read, read, and re-read again! I am a non traditional ADN student at age 50 and I am finding that I need to spend a lot of time studying just to pass these nursing tests. And if you throw a few distractions in there, forget it. I'm gonna get a bit crabby. Everybody needs to vacate the premises if they can't just sit there and shut up!!!

Yes, this! My man insists on telling me all about the golf tournament that he has on while I have books spread all over my lap and the floor! Grates my nerves!!!!!!!

Might I suggest earplugs? They have saved my husband's life a few times. (Or at least my marriage!)
