Putting on Pounds! (YUK)

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Since I started school, I've put on "some" weight!! Just wondering if anyone has a diet that they follow while they are in school that would keep those fat cells shrunk? I know this is a problem for allot of students because there really isn't much time for exercising between classes, studying, and family (housework).

Thanks!!

I'm still taking my prereq's and I know how you feel... I put on ten pounds last semester alone (and I'm normally the type of person who has to FIGHT to put on one or two). I wish I had advice for you other then watch your eating patterns during the day... This semester I plan on making sure I eat at least three somewhat decent meals a day rather then soda and snacks between classes and a huge meal at the end of the night. Hopefully that will help...

Essarge, I know exactly how you feel. I gained wt back that I had lost a few years before while at nursing school! I would suggest trying to eat healthy foods, drink LOTS of water, but if you get sidetracked don't be too discouraged. I carried a huge bottle of water in my backpack and filled it once or twice a day. I would recommend doing some type of exercize on a reg basis, like walking. Take a friend from class and walk campus on lunch or before/after classes since you have the same stresses and can encourage each other.

Hope this helps!

Hey, well the thing I would suggest is to just be aware of your eating habits. I gained 10 pouds my first year in nursing school. I am graduating in December. When my pants starting getting tighter, I was just more aware, I am back to my original weight before I started nursing school. Good luck to you.:D

I gained 60 lbs during school, and it is slowly starting to come off again. I attributed it to deep fried dorm food! I dont snack more than one day a month. But when I get stressed I eat, when I get depressed I eat, when I get bored, You get the idea. Its hard to watch what you eat when you have so much other stuff on your mind.

things that are quick and easy to fix are normally high fat and calorie. Its hard!

Walking during clinicals helps a lot, as I am always running around, and back and forth from the lab.

Personally, I like Tae-bo. Its fun, and gets your heart beating!

I bring my lunch from home which helps me avoid those extra lbs from fast food. Other than that, you are right! It is so hard to watch the weight.

By the way, Thanks for the info about A&P. I am not sure which textbook we are using yet, but I can't wait to find out.
