Preparation for Job Hunting for New Grad RN's

I am an old RN. When I graduated hospitals would be dragging you in off the streets! Not so at least for the time being. Seems like the only way to get hired these days is to be in a school who has an affiliation with a hospital who agrees to hire their students upon graduation. The other option seems to wait around for annual open programs to start that train new grads with no affiliation to that hospital. These occur once a year or so.

I wonder why Nursing schools don't set aside some time to discuss job hunting? How hard would that be? Or to have a staff member do a local job search and pass that on to the graduating students? How about preparing the Nurse on how to find a Job?

My daughter just graduated with her BSN and the hospital she was affiliated with was not a not so great facility and if you signed on to agree to work for them they would pay for your school with a so many year work commitment. She looked all over but no one was hiring. Luckily she had worked at a local hospital for 2 years as a Nurses Aide during her school and was hired on to a Tele Unit and is getting a 6 week preceptorship
