Preceptorship- where are you going?

  1. I am going to the ICU I am meeting up with my preceptor on Wednesday. It looks like I'll be doing some 12 hour Sunday shifts to get my time in. I need 80 hours in, is that typical?

We just do two per semester. We go to two separate units in the hospital and do 10 hour clinical days and that adds in to our total clinical time this semester. We also do a Home Health rotation that adds in. This semester I went to the GI/GU unit and also the Cardiac unit. I enjoyed GI/GU, didn't like Cardiac AT ALL!! All I have left now is my Home Health in the way of preceptorship. I hope you enjoy your time in ICU, that sounds very interesting!

I am going to Ambulatory Surgery and I have to do 80 hours. I have to call my preceptor to set up a schedule yet.

We have to do 120 hours. I get to go to the children's hospital, though I don't know what area yet. Only a few of us were chosen to go there and I'm psyched.

They wouldn't let us go anywhere but the ICU, ED, med-surg or Children's Hospital. They said that the course objectives couldn't be fulfilled in other areas such as the OR.

Weird. We can choose wherever we want to go. There was a list of places for ideas, but if we didn't want anything on that list, we could write-in some place.

In our final semester, we do 24 hours a week (two 12's) for 8 weeks -- so almost 200 hours.

I still have a semester to go before I hit my final semester, but I plan to do mine in the PICU or Pediatrics (whatever area they are able to accomdoate me in).

I'm doing my 120 hour preceptorship on a Cardiovascular Telemetry floor. My 1st choice was ER (which I was SOOOO pissed I didn't get), and I hate everything cardio related. However, I am happy to say that I'm really enjoying my preceptorship so far. The only thing that sucks is standing on my feet for 12 hours 2-3 times a week, but I guess that's something I gotta get used to if I'm gonna be a nurse

I am doing 120 hours in Postpartum! It was my first pick, so I am thrilled! It's hard to believe it's almost time to get pinned!
Congrats to everyone for doin' it!!!!!

Ours is only 56 hours. I will do mine next semester but I am kind of worried b/c something went wrong with the organization of the whole process for the class this semseter and they didn't have anywhere to place them (let alone getting to pick what you wanted). Now, they all wound up in the float pool! I hope they get it all figured out by next semester (needless to say:uhoh21

wow i know at my school for our final semester (i guess thats called preceptorship) we get 32 hours a week for 13 weeks so a total of 416 hours

    I guess I cant complain!!!

Well we dont get to pick where we go but most people end up doing some form of med surg or GIM...only a few get to do NICU, ER or surgery

for our 7th semester of clinical we do 16 hours a week for a total of 208 hours...still not too shabby

i dont mind doing med surg when the time comes though

I'm kind of shocked that some of you have to do so few preceptorship hours! Are yall in BSN programs??? We have to have atleast 240 hours next semester (spring 08). We don't have any classes though except for the first 6 weeks (some dumb leadership class), and then preceptorship and graduation!! WooHoo!!

I'm not sure where I'm doing mine yet, they haven't told us! I put down ER, ICU, and Progressive and then Med/Surg. I'll probably do med/surg because one of my clinical instructors hasnt sent in the recommendation form that I need (we have to have 3 rec's in order to do any speciality)... So we'll see!
