Pre Req Curriculum Vs NS

Ok from a show of hands, which one was more challenging.

The work to maintain a high GPA to get into Nursing School (doing all the pre reqs, the pre req classes themselves, etc etc)

OR

The work to Continue in the nursing program

Im starting Nursing School in the Fall, and Im curious to know which did you find more difficult. What Im in for, so I can prepare myself mentally.

Thanks guys.:redbeathe

Prereqs were definitely more work... As for difficulty, that depends on the prof. I think in NS (although I went through a small private prog) most profs are aware of your limited time and additional work in clinical and such so they tend to be more understanding. Now, this may not be true for all schools, but that was my experience.

Good Luck with school! Stay on top of things and you will do fine!

Hey there.... i have to say that both are difficult in very different ways. The stress of trying to get the best grades you can in the pre reqs was crazy.. i used to think, "if i can just get these pre reqs over, and get into nursing school, its smooth sailing from there..!" hahaha oh boyy did i have another thing coming to me! Im just finishing my 1st year in the BSN program and its been a tough road, and actually i would have to say WAY tougher than finishing the pre reqs... Ive done really well though however its been the hardest thing ive done in my whole life. NS doesnt just test you mentally but physically and emotionally as well. Its going to be a rocky road, but we are all in the same boat and that offers some comfort. Good luck in your journey!:nuke:

Thank you for your responses everyone

I'd say nursing school. I knew that if I studied well for my pre-req exams, I'd do well. It was basically intensive memorization.

Nursing school can leave me wondering how I know a subject well enough (memorized), but still got the question wrong.

Get what put in in pre-reqs, not always so in nursing courses. So, I vote NS more difficult.

That was my feeling as well. Have you read the thread on '4.0 in pre-reqs? How RU doing in NS?"

Yeah I actually found it useful after i submitted this thread, thanks!!

NS. Hands down.

Many of my prerequistes were a joke. The only classes I worked as hard as I do right now are A&P and Micro. And even Micro wasn't that bad, we just had a ton of projects.

And the tests in NS are very different than the ones in prerequistes.

I thought the content in some of the pre-reqs was harder (especially Chemistry!) but it was easier to get good grades.

The material in nursing school is not that difficult, but there is a lot of it thrown at you quickly, and it is harder to get that "A".

So, I think nursing school is harder... and easier!

NS is harder.. no hesitation, no doubt! It's extremely hard. I really honestly don't remember studying for a pre-req class, except human anatomy, and I had a 3.87 when I transferred. However, I did go to a community college and there IS a difference in pre-reqs there vs. a university!

NS is THE hardest thing I've ever endured. This last semester I had 2 C's and 3 B's... I have yet to make an A! And the sad part is - I don't care! I use to get this horrible feeling in my stomach if I made a B (in pre-reqs) - now I pray for C's! :)

You can do it! Just be prepared! Stay ahead and try your hardest to STAY MOTIVATED!!!

My thoughts exactly!

I was wondering the same thing as you. I am in the honors cirriculum at my college and am starting nursing soon. I have a feeling that will be pretty difficult. But I am confident that I can do it, the hard part will be keeping the 3.5 GPA to keep my scholarships. :banghead:
