Physicals and vaccinations

All of the nursing schools I have researched require a physical examination and a list of current vaccinations/immunity before the first day of nursing school. Where can one obtain these services without medical insurance if needed?

Thanks,

If you don't have a copy of your immunization records you would need to get those from the doctor you had as a child or see if your parent's have your immunization record. If that's not possible then you would need to have titers drawn. I'm sure any doctor's office would give you a physical exam and titers, it's just that you are obviously going to have to pay for it. I didn't have insurance when I had to get all my required vaccinations for school. It was expensive, but I had to do it.You could possibly see if there is a vaccination clinic in your community. Also, call the school, they might be able to tell you where you can go to get some vaccinations for an inexpensive price.

When I got my physical for the LVN program here in Texas, I didnt have insurance either. It cost $35 for the physical, and they took blood, urine, and a TB test, which was still minimal....I think the blood draw was $25, which they billed me for later on, and I cant remember if the TB test was an extra charge or not....I had all my shots up to date so it cost me less than $65, even without insurance....the only part that cost alot was the 3-part Hep B vax, which cost $284 for 3 vials :uhoh3: and $16 them to do each shot...

Depending on where you live, you can also try contacting the county health dept for your area. When I first starting doing alot of overseas travel about eighteen years ago, they were THE only place that you could go for many of the vaccinations. But today most of them have routine vaccination clinics.

If you are going to be going to a community college or university, they may have a clinic available for you on the campus. Desn't hurt to check it out.

Good luck............. :balloons:

I had just had my yearly exam at the Women's Health Center and my doc filled out the necessary forms for me. I then went to the Public Health Office locally and got my immunizations much cheaper than through the Dr.'s office. I had no record of childhood immunizations since I was just old enough that there were no records kept and possible alot of immun.'s weren't developed yet. I just rolled up my sleeve, grinned and bared it.

I looked all around and still ended up having to pay. The health department and my school clinic were about the same price (I basically would pay just the cost for either place, no cost for physician fee, etc.). Maybe in some places you could get it for free though at the health department (ours does them free for children but not adults). Ask in your nursing dept. too, I think some get their hospital partners where you do clinicals to let you get them there, like the employees do.
