PDA's and Voice recorders

  1. Do you have a PDA or voice recorder? Why or why not? Do you think either or both of these are needed or helpful?

I haven't felt the need for a voice recorder.

I do plan on getting a PDA very soon.

My school has a policy of not allowing voice recorders in class or clinicals so there is no point in me getting one.

I do intend to get a PDA before starting back next fall.

Okay curious, but why don't they allow voice recorders in class? Is it an issue of privacy, thinking you might pick up something you aren't supposed to?

Privacy is exactly the reason they give. The department of nursing has a policy that nobody may record anything so that they can discuss cases more freely without risk of private information going beyond the classroom or clinical setting.

I have a pda that I use for everything from reference to bills to dates to phone numbers to keeping track of points for weight watchers to so many more things. In fact, I use mine so much that my husband wants one now. He said that if I get a new one in the fall, he wants the one I have now. I am looking forward to getting one with a faster processor as I have lots of stuff on my memory card and the pda I use right now is very slow when I access stuff there. I don't have a voice recorder, but was planning on getting one. I will be waiting now until I find out my school's policies before buying one though.

I have a PDA with Stedman's Medical Dictionary and the Prentice-Hall Nursing Pharm Book (or whatever it is.) Makes it a lot easier to access my info.

I have a PDA and I have Lippencott's nursing drug book downloaded on it. It is SOOO much easier than carrying the actual book with me during clinicals, plus it has really saved me when I get to clinicals and find out the patients that I prepped for were discharged and I have to start all over with two new patients and new drugs! It comes with a voice recorder on it. I only use to make mental notes of things when I don't have pen and paper handy.
Where can I get a downloadable PDA version of the medical dictionary?

Beiks.com has a combo package where you can get a medical dictionary and medical abbreviations dictionary. It's cheap ($25) and has worked well for me. It's not as snazzy as the Tabers but you can't beat the price!

I have a PDA and I wouldn't trade it. I have Taber's, a drug guide program, RNfast facts and med calc and I use it each night at clinical. My preceptor has even resorted to asking me to look up new drugs on the PDA rather then the drug guide on the med cart. Much faster. I don't have a voice recorder don't really have a need for one.

I'm going to get one before I start school. I'm sure it's going to be a lot better than carrying heavy books to clinicals! I'd like to get one that has lots of memory so I can story drug info, RNFacts, things like that.

I had an Oooold one until about a month ago. It died and I'm just lost w/o it. I was trying to make an appt. for my dog yesterday, I didn't have my PDA calendar and I felt LOST!

I need to get one soon.
