Hello All,

Just wanted to share my accomplishment with everyone here! I PASSED MY FIRST DRUG CALC TEST!!! Please understand why this is sooo important to me, I absolutely SUCK at math! I have a very bad math anxiety and I STILL passed! I can actually do this! Just wanted to share my joy! Anyone that do not like math, please understand it's not that bad. If I can do it, anyone can! :monkeydance::lol2: Keep hope alive!

Congratulations!!:balloons: :balloons:

I also am not good at math, but will give it my best when the time comes.

Congratulations. I also suck at Math. Just out of curiosity, what exactly was on the test? I have thought about possibly doing some examples here and there to keep brushed up on my math.

Our drug calc test had a lot of converting grams to milligrams and lbs to kilograms and visa versus, as well as calculating tablets. There were no IV drip rates on this test but it will be on the next test where you have to get 90% to pass. It's not so bad. Just concentrate on your conversions, for lbs, ounces, milligrams, grams, liters, and mL. Also concentrate on converting inches to centimeters. It wasnt half as bad as my College Algebra class which I absolutely hated. At least there were no graphing a coordinate point (as in Algebra).

Good luck!

i took the same thing i sopose

the only question that sticks out and im not too sure if i got right went something like this

the patient needs 0.005 g of medication, the tablet comes in 2.5 mg what amount should you give? i think its half a tablet but then i changed it last minute..what do you guys think?

bklyngirl...

Actually, if the patient needs .005 grams (or 5 mg), you should give 2 tablets (if each is 2.5 mg) to give the proper amount of medication...

I always write down my thought process for these questions (no matter how simple) because I find it so easy to get tripped up.

WANT: 0.005 grams x (1000 mg / gram) = 5 mg

HAVE: 2.5 mg = (1/2) what I want...

so DOSE = 2 x (2.5 mg) tablets

A

oh well i was off i sopose, does pharmacology help with drug calc...?

Thanks for the inspiration. I'm not bad at math, well not terrible, it's just that I picked up out book and I have been looking at it without instruction as of yet and it looks overwhelming. But.I do have a tendency to worry too soon sometimes. I will step back and remember what you said. Thanks !

Congrats!

We just started learning drug calcs in class. We were supposed to have our calc test on Monday. However, when this teacher (who I really like btw) tried to explain it to us on Tuesday of last week, she just wound up confusing the whole class. I don't think math's her "thing" b/c she kept on confusing the units (called mg's mL's etc), which in turn confused us.

So she's postponing it. She said she'd go over it with us on Monday. I spent some time today with it, and it really isn't too bad. We don't have to do IV rates until our second year in school. I'm assuming we do heparin rates later as well.
