Overseas Elective Placements

Nursing Students General Students

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience organising and undertaking an overseas clinical or internship?

I'm an Australia student about to graduate and I've always really wanted to go overseas and experience nursing in another culture. I'm really interested in going to Africa, the Pacific Islands or the Caribbean on an organised program as a student nurse.

I've found a few companies that do this sort of thing including Projects Abroad & World the World. I've talked a fair bit to the staff at Work the World and the whole program seems really appealing - almost to good to be true!

Ideally I'd like to be involved in a long standing program with good clinical exposure and a student house (rather than home stays). The Work the World programs seem to have students in there delivering babies, in theatres, doing all sorts of amazing things.. As I said, it does almost seem to good to be true!

Has anyone ever done anything like this before or know anything about it? I'm trying to find out as much as possible about all my options and what the experience is actually like before committing to anything.

Thanks all for your help!

i have never heard of this but it seems really interesting! i have a month off from school in april and now i want to use it to go to peru! lol

hope some other people have some information.

I don't know if this will flag you to read. I'm curious if you ended up taking an overseas assignment. I also have looked at Work the Word and it does seem to goo. I'd like to find someone who has experience with them. I'm also looking at Peru =)

I'm going to Africa in March. So far I'm really happy with Work the World.

I think Peru is their newest destination. Not sure if they've started sending students yet
