I would check with local hospitals in whatever area you plan to live and ask them what they think about the program. One of the reasons California doesn't allow Excelsior anymore is that some of the hospitals complained about the program and had quit hiring their grads.
Also, you won't be able to transfer your license back to California if you graduate from Excelsior, even if you get licensed in a another state. California is a big state and there are tons of jobs here so, you may limit your options. Just FYI since you live here and may want to move back someday.
I personally think the Excelsior program is too controversial. Kansas just went through a big thing where they considered banning the program. I think they now allow it again, but only have you've practiced in another state for a couple of years.
I'd prefer a degree that could transfer anywhere I may want to move, with any employer and with any BON, without any questions about it's validity.
But that's just me.
