My school did require it. We had to have the American Heart Association's class, they would not accept the Red Cross. Some schools accept either... you should make sure you take the right class. I am sure your school can tell you.

And make sure it is for Health Care Professional certification...

My school also requires you take CPR before beginning nursing courses. It has to be from the American Heart Association also, they will not accept it from the Red Cross. It also has to be for healthcare providers.

Ditto, we also need the AHA for Healthcare providers.

We had to have CPR before clinicals.

We had to have CPR, didn't matter which one. I took the Red Cross it was excellent as far as I can tell. I think either is adequate but make sure to check your school to make sure.

We also had to have it BEFORE clinicals (health care provider) and they send you a reminder before every semester to make sure that you are up do date with two step PPD, CPR certification, etc.

The hospitals usually require the school to provide proof that the students are up to date on CPR and TB test before allowing them to do clinicals there.

If you show up to school the first day and don't have it, you might be okay because you likely won't be in the hospital for a few weeks. You are better off getting it beforehand though.

In MS you have to be AHA CPR certified before you can be responsible for a patient in a hospital...even if you are a student--We all had to have it. BLS for Healthcare Providers, was the name I believe.

Same for me--Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals by the AHA needed before the school year starts. They teach the classes at my school, both for nursing students and the general public. Maybe they do at yours, too!

I'm sure your school will send you info about what kind you need as it gets closer to January.
