Ok, I will admit it.

Since starting nursing school, I am one of "those" who thinks I have every disease in the book...LOL. :uhoh3: :uhoh21:

I have learned soooooooo much about the human body, and of course, of all disease and their processes, only to look neurotically at myself. LOL.

Am I the only looney tune who is kinda....ummmm...self obsessed with diseases since allllllll this knowledge I learned the 1st yr of RN school?!!! :smackingf

:rotfl: I know the feeling. When I was in nursing school I got labryinthitis (I think that is how its spelled) Anyways................I just knew I had a brain tumor and was dying.:uhoh21:

In our lab, my partner was trying to find my temporal pulse.

I had already been c/o a bad headache that day...she was worried that since she couldn't find it, maybe I had or was going to have a stroke! LOL!

I must agree I thought I had every auto-immune disease we talked about!!! MS, chronic fatigue, you name i had it. we all also thought we were dieing of ovarian cancer and demanded to leave class to lady partsl ultrasounds!!!!!

Specializes in LTC, med-surg, critial care.

A friend of mine would always think she had whatever disease we were going over at the moment. At first she was serious then it became sort of a joke. When we started on testicular cancer the instructor gave us the signs and symptoms. From across the room another friend held up a paper with "Do you have this too Jayne?" written largely across it. All three of us started cracking up.

This same friend and I went out with friends for pizza and beer to celebrate a birthday. About an hour into the festivties she tells me "I think I have diabetes. I keep eating pizza (polyphagia), I keep drinking beer (polydipsia) and I keep having to go to the bathroom (polyuria)." :rotfl: She was joking this time but at the time we were both tipsy and thought it was the greatest joke ever.

:chuckle I always say to my mom "I think I have... (insert disease or illness here)." and she always goes "Oh god, YOU should not have gone to nursing school". I was already a bit neurotic and a hypochondriac BEFORE I started...

I hate to break the bad news to you, but you do have an actual syndrome. It's called "intern's syndrome." Don't worry- it's pretty common and usually not fatal. It also happens to med students and psychology majors. Unfortunately the only cure is to stop studying! Just kiddin', but that IS the actual name for this syndrome.

Specializes in Emergency.

I had a little bit of the hypochondriac tendencies in nursing school, but more than that I always thought everyone around me had horrible diseases--Lung Cancer, Brain Tumors, Carpel Tunnel. Now when I say, hey, maybe it's a tumor, my friends have learned to tell me to shut up. :chuckle

I think the stress of nursing school does horrible things to your body, so that doesn't help. I think all nursing students have IBS, chronic fatique syndrome, and bipolar disorder. :p

Specializes in cardiac.

LOL! I have it too...in addition to all the other dread diseases we have studied. I actually made my internist palpate my abdomen once when I had a diverticulitis attack because I was sure I had peritonitis! LOL

Additionally, during the endo unit I went to her and told her I had terrible news...I had both hypopituitary and hyperpituitary....awful to have ALL those symptoms! :rotfl: She just (very calmly) asked why I thought so, and then showed me in my chart my lab results. She had the good grace not to laugh until after I left.

LOL... you're definitely not alone. I get a bad cough and all I can think about is MRSA... a pain in my calf can only mean a DVT and I will soon die of a pulmonary embolus... every headache is a stroke and every time my heart flutters it must mean that I will go into V-tach

And last semester I diagnosed myself with Bipolar and OCD. I can't wait to see what disorders I "develop" next semester!
