OB or peds?

  1. Ok, just about done with my first semester of LPN. We just signed up for clinicals for next semester. I signed up for Peds first month, then OB the next, but am thinking of switching it around to be in the same clinical group as my gf as a couple people may not make it and there may be a cople openings. Any opinions on which is better to start with and is it ok to be in the same clinical group as my gf? She did'nt want me to be in the nursing home clinicals with her, but now says she does'nt mind if I am for this one, don't know why she has changed her attitude...

I think it really depends on the person which area you'll like best. Personally, I'm chomping at the bit to get into OB, and am not at all looking forward to my peds rotation. Several of my classmates never want to set foot in labor and delivery, but can't wait to work in peds. So it depends.

I will say that I think I would work better if I was not in a class with my friend/sig other. I think that it would distract me. However, that may not be the case for you. I'd probably stick to what you've already chosen, simply because it's easier than trying to switch things around now.

OB should be 1st that way you will know all about where the PEDS comes from.

I agree! I did OB first and we just finished our Peds rotation. I liked taking care of the mom first, then the newborn, then following up with the natural progression to Peds. And also on Peds, you may have a newborn as a patient, so you will be comfortable with them b/c you already did OB. Good luck.
