Nursing school student loans.

I am currently a BSN nursing student. I will graduate in dec 2015 with roughly 23-25k in student loan debt. Most of that wont acquire interest until 6 months after i graduate. I know how to live wayy beneath my means so I plan to pay it all off within the first year and a half of working.

What level of nursing are you?

How much in student loan debt did you graduate with?

Are you still paying it off?

If not, how long did it take to pay it off?

How much of student loans will you graduate with? How do you plan to pay it all back and within what time frame would you like to have it paid back?

No responses? Okay. Cool..

I'll graduate with about $30K in loans. My goal is to make as large of payments as humanly possible (I'm aiming for $1000/month) so that it will be paid back ASAP. I HATE having debt looming over me, and I want to build savings and knock out my debt as quickly as I can.

I'm still paying mine off (been a nurse for a year), and honestly, if it wasn't for my husband getting out of the military this year (he's getting out early), I would've had my private student loan out of the way at least by the middle of next year. I had it figured out that if I worked one day of overtime every week, I'd be good with my loans. My overall goal was to treat my loans like a new car. The average new car is about the same as the average student loan amount so really, I would've had it out of the way in 5 years at most. Other people may not look at it that way, but that's how I figured my stuff out.

My situation isn't a reflection of other people's, but if your student loan is the only thing you have to worry about, it's doable to get it out of the way in 2-3 years (other people on this forum on different threads can attest to it). If I was still living at home (my parents were happy to let me stay at home), my $60k debt would be gone.

Btw, I started out in a job I didn't like, and while I was still at that job, I found the current job I'm in now. Oh, and I would kill to just have the amount you owe. If it wasn't for something dumb, I'd have that much after graduation.

Wow, you expect instant responses? You posted on the 19th and are complaining that you don't have responses yet on the 19th....entitled much?

Sorry, I don't reward attention-seekers, so I won't be answering your poll.

Yep...complaining that there were no immediate, same-day responses = attention-seeking behavior to me. (Or a sign of immaturity, or a lack of understanding that the world doesn't revolve around any one person, or brattiness.... take your pick.)

This isn't Facebook or Twitter, people don't see new threads or get a notification on their phone within two minutes of them being posted.

If a couple days have gone by without a single response, I could understand thinking that it was overlooked and then "bumping" it up. But same day? Sorry, no respect.

Just my opinion...you're welcome to yours.

Due to the current economic climate, you may be delayed up to a year or two in finding a job; some grads up to three to get that "job"; there are many repayment options like income-based payment, as well as deferment while looking for work or working less than 30 hrs per week; I took this option and pay the interest; I am applying for income-based repayment (which takes time to process) and will keep paying interest quarterly while enjoying the job and experience that I have.

sometimes it takes a bit for responses. remember....many of the members are in school and busy....others work shift work

I haven't even started nursing school yet. I start a BSN program this fall, but while in pre-nursing I accrued exactly $11,250 in loans. Crazy, right? Those were all for living expenses because I didn't work my first year and a half of college.

Now things have changed and I'm in a better position financially, so I'll graduate owing that $11,250. I want to have it all paid off in 2 years max. I do want to go to grad school and I refuse to start with loans from my undergrad still lurking around.
