Hmmm.... Are you a brand new nursing student? Or an Lvn/LPN transfer to RN?

1st: consider your own learning style. I like to take notes, on paper (sometimes on my lap top)

For this reason, I have a Swiss army back pack with a lap top compartment, as well as quality lined notebooks and quality colorful pens and highlighters.

A decent printer also was of great use to me.

I liked having a good pencil holder for all my colorful pens, highlighters, etc.

A 3 prong hole puncher...(we recvd lots of handouts at school)

Dividers for your binder.

A single good binder with a clear cover to place your schedule in, as well as to store all those papers.

A good backpack or something with rolling wheels! Your school will tell you which is best.

Nursing school will also likely require you to purchase clinical supplies, such as gloves, a stethoscope (I like Littman Classic),

A lunch bag and a water bottle. Nursing student have long lecture days and even longer clinical days in my neck of the woods.

A cheap-o calculator.

Laser printer. It will pay for itself 10x over.

I just looked up laser printer on amazon. They are under 100.00! All your powerpoints, you'll need to print. One cartridge of a laser printer costs 40.00 and prints upwards of 3000 pages.

Ink printer will cost you 50.00, and the ink will run dry after 100 pages. ink for a laser printer is about 30.00-50.00. It can literally be cheaper just to purchase a new ink printer when you need to buy ink.

Your powerpoints will be around 30 pages each, for the 3 classes you'll have for the first semester. Do the math. get a laser printer.

Yep, I was surprised at this. I purchased a nice Brother 2300 series laser printer off Amazon brand new for $67 about six months ago. One toner cartridge yields enough ink for about 1000 printed papers.

It took me a while to realize that the $40 inkjet all-in-one printers are no bargains because the ink cartridges often cost more than the printer over the long run.

I am hoping to start the RN BSN program in Spring 2017 but want to get ready ahead of time

voice recorders are good to have, one for each class if they let you have them, if not, you can record your own voice reading your notes so you can lay in bed or drive to school listening to them. have a good printer that does copies, dont get a color printer as it will always be out of yellow ink the night before you need a print out, and walmart is closed. also, have a flashdrive on your keyring so you save/use it on school pc to save notes. great study aid is to google for free flashcards on the nursing topic your currently studying. have some snacks you buy in bulk at walmart, the schools machines will clean you out, if it even gives you your food after you put your money in!!! a great book to read on the side is called exam cram nclex, it usually goes along with your topics in school, have you a folder you keep all your tb test, shot record, etc in.. also, get you a calender that has spaces you can write on to keep up with whats coming up. good luck.... oh, and dont work no more than two or three days a week and only do that if you have to, nursing school is alot harder then regular school and it cost alot of money to fail and start over. for every six months your not a nurse, thats about 25k that didnt go into your bank account,,, so get graduated!!! if you didnt score too high on act/sat,, do it again and get some scholarship money.

I second the printer! I printed all my assignments and power points on the school printers because it was significantly cheaper. But when things/schedules/clinicals got hectic it was a life saver to be able to print things before running out the door last minute. I don't think I'd be able to convince the school to open early so I could print at 5am before clinicals :wacky:
