Nursing school is awful in so many ways....

EDIT: FYI- Not asking for advice..I'm just venting. Common sense replies are a waste of your time and mine. Feel free to skip to another thread if this one gets you bent out of shape.

Ok, if you are looking for positivity, close this thread quick!

Reasons why *I* feel nursing school can SOMETIMES be a drag:

1) Weight gain/loss that is unwelcome

2) Breaking out like you're going through puberty again

3) Lack of sleep (6 hours sounds good)

4) 200 hours of studying and only 2 days to complete it ;)

5) You are inclined to feel clueless and severely inexperienced

6) Crappy Administration and/or Nursing Staff

7) Cheaters

8) Classroom Politics & B.S. "Cliques"

9) Cattiness

10) Backstabbing

11) Gossiping

12) Watching those who commit #7-11 succeed equally as well as you do. WHAT A KICKER!

Has anyone been in a nursing program that they hated so much they would given anything to transfer

on to another one? Just a random question.

I'm in my mid-20s and I cannot help but to notice how terrible the nursing school environment is. I have been in college before and it just doesn't compare to nursing school. I have never dealt with so many backstabbing, gossiping, cheating, ungrateful, catty people in my LIFE. And much to your surprise, they are NOT all women! I'm sick of my college. We pay over $23k per year and the administration treats us like dirt. There is NO loyalty when it comes to us and we are blatantly lied to almost on a daily basis...and even though I get along with my class as a whole, I would say it's more that I "tolerate" them because I'm slightly easygoing. I have never met so many two-faced, shameless, jealous, shady people in my LIFE before. It creeped up out of NO WHERE!

I'm sick of my nursing program. Sick of the people who are jealous of those who make good grades..and SICK of those same people who feel they have a right to copy off their papers or pressure them into "sharing". I go to college with , generally, a bunch of flippin' idiots. That felt better. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just shaking my head thinking that I have to go here for another 1.5 years potentially. I'm doing everything I can to transfer, but I'm not sure how easy that will be. I'm finished with my LPN portion of my program this summer.

I just had to get this off my chest. You do not have to agree with me lol. I have already started to tell my classmates some of this. If they are gonna be hateful, they will be hateful knowing the truth from me! I don't have a problem either. Done a lot of that "blunt" talk this week. lol

Thanks Katie. I'm here to stay for a while. Had to vent though because it's really sad to see so much of this nonsense in a field like this! :-/

What's your goal?

To finish school? Or worry about everyone else?

Focus.

Thanks! This I obviously know. I'm just venting. At this point, I just want to pass...then perhaps I can transfer.

I'm glad this forum is here to vent...we all need that at times. I would fully agree with being DONE with those who whine, complain, and cheat. I will be very glad when I can stop dealing with those in my classes who are chronically late -- there's ALWAYS a darn good reason why -- not to mention the instructors who hold us to deadlines and then take WEEKS to evaluate and give feedback on our work.

Although there are a few people I hope to keep in touch with after it's all said and done, the vast majority of my fellow students are not friend material. That's fine by me since I didn't come here to make friends -- I came here to learn how to take care of people.

I totally agree that Nursing School can be a drag. I'm a senior at a Nursing School in Brooklyn and as much as I try to focus, there's always things around me that BOTHER me. I hate the whispering that goes on while I'm trying to take my exams. I hate sharing every little thing in lab (even alcohol swabs!!!). Most of all, I can't stand it when the professors have so much pride that they're NEVER wrong. They'll just rub their degrees in your face and ask you, 'well, how long have YOU been a nurse?'

It's frustrating, but there's nothing we can do. We just have to do our best and GRADUATE! :)

I feel the OPs pain. Sounds much like my class. Sometimes they can be like a pack of wolves. Frankly, I am to old for all of that rubbish. The only thing I don't think happens in my class is cheating.

Oh I have one:

People in my class complain about our instructor, her methods, her disorganization etc. etc. Seriously, they complain all the time. Yet, when when someone sent an anonymous note about her to the dean, everyone pretended that it was unwarranted and wanted to hunt down the person who sent it. 24 hours later...they are back to moaning and groaning.

The drama is unbelievable.

Wow! This would be MY class. PATHETIC.

Thank You everyone for replying. To the person in Brooklyn, esp. - I think you can relate to how nursing school in NYC can be just a little "different" in a "special" way. It sounds like everyone across the board can relate, though.

It's enough to split my head in half. I just keep thinking I am going to be SO grateful when I have vacations and break this glass ceiling of misery. Almost every reply on here sounded just like my class. It's nice to know I'm not the only one going through this! :redbeathe

Sorry you are having such a hard time. I am loving nursing school and my experience has been pretty different from yours. I hope it gets better for you.

Change your major. Nursing is like this regardless of any school or hospital you go too. Its an abusive profession. If you like to "help" people, do it in another way. Nursing will damage you in every way possible. It typically attracts a certain type of person and personality. Seriously how many people with high self esteem would allow themselves to go through all the things you listed in your original post? You put in too much emotions, money and time in this and don't have anything to show except nightmares and deteriorating physical and mental health.

You said you were in college before. You know not all majors and professions are like nursing. Leave now. Listen to your gut.

I just had to reply to this. My self esteem is great. Good enough not to get caught up in the politics. Are they there? Yes. I can't change what other people do, only how I react to it.

I suppose everyones experience is different. Some have it better than others, vice versa. I do think summersent made some intelligent remarks. It all clicks. My self-esteem is fine, as well...and I'm still wondering how anyone can commit themselves to a lifetime of only one option (ie. nursing). I'm taking it day by day and just thinking about the end goal.

for me nursing is not just one option, it is a career of many options. i intend on becoming an fnp, then hopefully a whnp. there is so much that can be done within the nursing spectrum, and i could never imagine myself being anything other than a nurse.
