Nursing School Hours?

What days & what times do you go to school/clinicals?

I am going to be starting nursing school... eventually.. lol

Personally, though I do absolutely have the desire to be a nurse, God is above everything...

I have church Thursday nights at 7:30, and Sunday, 2-4, and Bible study Friday at 7:30pm...

Those are things that are going to take place in my life no matter what I do, along with my prayer life...

I just wanted to make sure that most nursing schools are during the week and dont go that late.. at least on thursdays & fridays..

Thank you guys :)

It will really depend on the program you go into. You wouldn't be able to attend the program I go to.

I'm in class 3 nights a week. I have clinicals every other weekend and that includes Friday night preps.

At orientation (remember we were all accepted and knew what we were getting into) a woman raised her hand and asked if she had to come to clinicals on Saturdays because she was 7th Day Adventist.

I understand you want to go to Church but you knew this was an evening WEEKEND program...you aren't that special. She made it through about 1 semester and dropped out for a variety of reasons but never made it to a clinical semester.

So it really depends on the program but please make sure you know the exact hours before you sign up. You don't want to get in and find out later on that it's not going to work.

You also need to figure out if a working schedule will be something that is doable in the future. You need to think about whether you expect to get a position that does not require Sundays or work the 3rd shift. If you work in a doctor's office you should be fine though they might expect some evening hours. If you work in a hospital it might be very hard to get out of working every Sunday unless you do 3rd shift.

I wanted to add with working...you need to realize that it's entirely possible that you will be expected to work a couple Sundays a month. As a new grad you will have a hard time getting a perfect schedule if there are a lot of things you need to work around. You need to be able to be flexible. Sure you could get lucky...but I wouldn't plan on everything going perfectly right out of school. I would figure out if you would be okay possibly missing a lot of Church time on Sundays.

I dont know what I want to do after graduation.. hopefully I'll find out working & doing clinicals.. if I miss once and a while, I dont think it will be too bad, but I know if God wants me at Church or Bible study, He'll make a way for my schedule..

Thanks for your imput :)

In my program clinicals are mandatory! We are not allowed to miss any time at all. If we have a major crisis (as in a death in the immediate family, or projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea at the same time) we have to make up the time we missed doing case studies. I don't want to rain on your parade here, but it will be bad if you miss once in awhile! Going to church is not a good enough reason (in our instructor's opinion) to miss clinical or lecture time. I think God would understand if you missed church once in awhile. You are helping to better yourself so that you will one day have the education to help others. Isn't that what He ultimately wants you to do?

Dear Sis IwannabeanRN, You probably better count on backsliding and putting a good Rx dealer on speed dial. Just to let you know!!! Also you are dreaming, when you finally graduate you WILL work Sundays and bible study night. The good Brothers and Sisters who came before you get to finally go back to church now that you have arrived. Thank goodness the rapture hasn't happened yet. Maybe the Lord will tarry for you too. Peace Out and good luck!!! Love The Homegrown Nurse

Hey Lisa/EagleFan,

You and I are in the same boat. We have better have a damn good reason for missing clinicals. Nursing school is sort of like boot camp. But it's worth it.

I'm in an accelerated program, so it's a little different, but this is my schedule for the upcoming term.

Monday Class 1-9

Tuesday nothing

Wednesday Clinical 8-5

Thursday Clinical 3-11

Friday Class 10-4

So anything I had planned for Monday night or Thursday night is officially cancelled. You may not always have clinicals or class during the day, so you will need to make other arrangements. Missing class and clinical is a very bad thing.

You should be fine...........God will make a way for you.
