Nursing School Bag - Vera Bradley

Hi,

I am doing my last semester for pre-reqs and wanted to get a VB bag to use for this semester, nursing school, and then hopefully to be able to use while working as my work bag. I'm looking at the 'Get Carried Away tote' and the 'Weekender'. Has anyone seen these in person (or have them) and, if so, which would you think is better for nursing school, especially to hold all the books and supplies I'll need?

Thanks!

Dranger maybe you should go become a med student cause clearly our hello kitty scrubs will ruin the nursing professing forever. How dare we wear pretty fun scrubs or colourful stethoscopes cause hospitals aren't depressing enough already for people who are injured or sick! so let's intimidate them some more and walk about with sticks in our asses with a tie on.

/sigh You just don't get it. But you will eventually when you get out of the drinking the kool-aid fantasy world known as nursing school where many profs haven't practiced since I was in diapers. Sure wear your hello kitty scrubs if it really makes yourself feel like you are brightening a patients day...better therapeutic communication? Put that in your care plan!

If I had a choice between med and nursing school? Yeah no contest. Unfortunately when you get settled in a career you can't just change paths. For many people on here they would choose the same as well whether admit it or not especially many veteran nurses. Don't believe me? Do a quick forum search.

Honestly I don't REALLY care about what the hell you wear/tote around, you all have your beliefs about professionalism and I have mine. I just find it odd that a standard backpack is somehow boring for nursing students but not 99% of other majors in college. We need special book bags for our books? Are they touched by he gods or something? If you are carrying more than 2-3 at a time you are probably wrong or just type-A....eh probably type-A.

Calm down. Way too much aggression and judgment.

Second, you can change fields if you want to. No one is stopping you but doctors are NOT better than anyone else. When most people think of doctors they think of professionals of course, but also cold, aseptic, and unapproachable. Nursing is one of the most trusted professions because we are seen as caring and down to earth. Those are things I aim to be and IMHO those qualities are worth more respect than they are given.

Wow, why are you so rude? Did you not get accepted to med school? Did a nurse slap you around? Are you even a nurse or student? Like I don't get why you felt the need to badger some nursing students who want a nice bag for school because she stated she had a coupon and gift card that would make the bag less expensive than a "normal" nursing bag. That is a bad thing because......? WHy does it bother you so much? Are you impoverished and the thought of someone buying something nice for themselves just sickens you? You have basically trolled up this thread to pick on female nurses and nursing students and keep bringing up the honeymoon phase and blah blah blah like you are so much better for whatever ill conceived reason that you believe. Get over yourself. You brought up bedazzled steths and cartoon scrubs. No one here was talking about it until you threw it out there. If Vera BRADLEY bags offend you so much, and you are so much better than us lowly nursing students, you should probably stay out of this forum, study a little harder and get into med school with the "professionals".

Or just get over yourself. That works too.

This thread is about the OP discussing the VB bag...lets stick to topic.

I would go with an actual backpack not a one shoulder. You'll end up buying a two strap backpack halfway through your first semester anyways. A rolling bag probably isn't necessary though unless you'll be studying on campus after classes and bringing every book you own with you.

If your school is like mine, you'll KILL your shoulder using a tote. Either get a backpack or better yet, a roller bag. I couldn't imagine trying to carry my 20 pound text book in a tote...ACK!

I bought a super cute, HUGE tote when I started NS, and paid quite a bit for it...unfortunately. Within a week, I started getting earaches.

It took me a few weeks and a couple trips to the massage therapist to realize it was stemming from neck shoulder strain. . Switched to a rolling backpack and never looked back!

lol couldnt have said it better myself!!

Back to the topic--I own a Vera bag and it's nicely sized & I hope to use it as my clinical bag in nursing school. I applied for spring so I'm trying to not think about it until I hear back in the next few weeks. I honestly DONT want to use a book bag, because they hurt my back. I'm not sure if we will need to bring our books to classes or not, but if not then I'll definitely use my Vera bag for school stuff and there's a tote I want for clinicals from 31 gifts. You can get any words or sayings on the side of the bag:..I was wanting to get "future RN" or something inspirational.

If the Vera bag is so hot and desirable, it's a theft target. And when you're going out from a late shift, a mugging target. I had a grey Jansport backpack that was indestructible, easy on my back and neck (which you will also appreciate more after a few years of real patient care), and too boring to steal.

Wear your cutie scrubs if you want...and in five years we'll be hearing you say that nobody takes you seriously. I agree: It's hard to take someone seriously who dresses as if she were going to a middle school sleep-over. :)
