Nursing School Bag - Vera Bradley

Nursing Students General Students

Hi,

I am doing my last semester for pre-reqs and wanted to get a VB bag to use for this semester, nursing school, and then hopefully to be able to use while working as my work bag. I'm looking at the 'Get Carried Away tote' and the 'Weekender'. Has anyone seen these in person (or have them) and, if so, which would you think is better for nursing school, especially to hold all the books and supplies I'll need?

Thanks!

What do you mean people don't take us seriously because someone wants a Vera Bradley bag? That's crazy. There is nothing wrong with being fashionable while wearing scrubs or looking cute at school. You better bet people take me seriously when I have a 4.0 GPA and know what the hell I am doing. But I also wear super cute scrubs to my labs and have a cute bag. I see nothing wrong with it. It's called being a girl. :sarcastic:

Thanks for proving my point and I don't care if you are a girl. I remember all of the residents laughing at the nursing students because they toted around giant monogram designer bags for no reason when a regular backpack or laptop bag would have sufficed. I wonder why med students get it but nursing students don't. It boggles my mind.

Sure look cute but remember perception is everything and your 4.0 doesn't mean squat in the workplace.

But I shouldn't be so hard, you are students after all...still learning I guess.

I agree! I spend 99% of my life in scrubs between school and work; nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel a little feminine! If someone is going to judge a nurse based on the color of her scrubs rather than her skills and knowledge, then it sounds like someone else has the issue; not the nurse.

You are right, I want to feel a bit more manly in my scrubs so I am going to wear a death metal band design two sizes too small, not shave or cut my hair (possibly not shower). You know just to feel a bit manly.

When I go to work that's what I want to do when I see overdone makeup, Vera whatever bags, specialized scrubs and all sorts of accessories that have nothing to do with patient care.

If I showed up looking a bit manly I guarantee you would judge me. It's work, sorry actually it's a profession. Practicality over aesthetics, you can feel feminine on your off time.

Once again tell me why medicine understands it but nursing does not? Medical students are always in either hospital issued scrubs or business casual.

I'm sure it hasn't crossed your mind, but did it ever occur to you that there is, in fact, a middle ground? When I say I enjoy looking a bit feminine, I did not mean (or mention for that matter) overdone makeup (I wear none), fancy jewelry (my wedding band and that's it) or fancy crap I don't need. And I wear whatever uniform the place tells me to and I have no problem doing so. But if I have a choice to wear a fun color or pattern (nondesigner thank you), I see nothing wrong with doing so and I don't need you to try and tell me I'm unprofessional or less of a nurse for doing so.

Whoa there tiger, did someone slap you around with a bejeweled steth a time or two?

Seriously, how does the way someone dresses, accessorizes, or otherwise offends you really affect their patient care? If someone is a bad nurse, it isn't due to their designer bag or Betty Boop scrub top.

Goodness, just let other people do their thing when it comes to this stuff. You'll be a much happier person the moment you decide to stop caring about the presentation of others.

I don't know where you work, but here I don't see nurses bedazzeled or bejeweled, or what ever you are calling it. You can't assume ALL nursing students do this either. That's ignorance. Oh, and who cares what med students do. This is allnurses!

Simple question that nobody can address, why do med students dress professionally while nursing student (I am not saying all but when it came to preceptorship at my school the girls couldn't wait until they could wear their fav cartoon scrubs) can't seem to agree on what professional means. They are both students, yet from what I have seen both carry themselves in two very different ways. Does a vera whatever bag or cartoon scrub top matter when dealing with patient care? Of course not but it does have to do with presentation. Now I say again how often have you seen a doctor, widely regarded as one of most professional of all professionals, wear a Betty Boop scrub top? NEVER. You are trying to say I think appearance effects patient care, it doesn't but it does have an effect on how others perceive you for better or for worse. In the pediatric setting I get it or maybe oncology but the ER or ICU? C'mon. Now I know you are all in your honeymoon stage with nursing as students but when you actually hit the workforce you will know what I mean. Do I give two **** what another nurse wears or brings? No way, but I do care about how my profession is perceived.

You are right who cares what other allied professionals (that we work all day everyday) are doing, makes sense. Do whatever you want. I don't assume all students do it but you assume that the nurses at your clinicals represent all nurses.

I have seen some very very bad examples

^^^Typical nursing girl stuff like this is why some people can't take us seriously. Why don't you bedazzle your stethoscope why you are at it? Maybe some designer scrub tops too?[/quote']

The amount of eye roll I gave this post has my grandmother rolling over in her grave.

MYOB.

I personally love my bedazzled blingy Boojee Beads popover retractable badge cover holder...if I could figure out a way to bedazzle my stethoscope I would...why? Because it makes me happy.

I don't think I know where to find a VB bag, but to those who enjoy them? Great, enjoy!

Bling and fashion haters? Do your own dreary plain thing...no one is forcing you to be serious and dull! :p

Labeling your opinion as "truth" doesn't make it so.

Dranger maybe you should go become a med student cause clearly our hello kitty scrubs will ruin the nursing professing forever. How dare we wear pretty fun scrubs or colourful stethoscopes cause hospitals aren't depressing enough already for people who are injured or sick! so let's intimidate them some more and walk about with sticks in our asses with a tie on.
