Nursing school

  1. Hello to everyone! I am currently finishing my pre-reqs before i apply to nursing school. I plan to start nursing school in next Spring. My GPA is a 3.1 right now and i have about 16 credits to finish. I wanted to know what the average GPA was that most of you had to achieve to get accepted into nursing school. Do you think that a 3.1 should be okay? Please respond, I am so worried about this. Sometimes I think that this is going to keep me out of nursing school. I appreciate your responses!

    Hi,

I'm in Delaware, but we have to maintain a solid C average to get into the nursing school. Check with your school advisor to see if your grades are up to par. They would know better than anyone else! Good luck and welcome to the crazy world of student nursing!!!

    Hi Alizae959,

It really depends of the school. They usually have a handbook for students to let you know what type of prerequisites you need to take and the GPA. For instance, in my college all we need to do is obtain a grade of "C" in all of our prerequisites in order to be admitted. However, I check a university in my area your GPA should be 3.2. All schools are different. Consequently, talk to your counselor as essarge suggested and check the handbook for requirements. I hope this could help a little.

Cool down and relax, you'll be fine. Most schools, require a 75% to 80% average (i.e. 2.0 to 3.0).
As students, everybody is focused on GPA, tests, etc. truthfully, there are some very book smart nurses, who couldn't handle two weeks in certain clinical settings.
There are three kinds of people.

#1 - Booksmart only, and suck in the clinical area.

#2 - Not booksmart at all, but clearly get the whole picture (most reffer to these as test anxiety people), they have been some of the best I have seen in the past.

#3 - Booksmart people, who can apply it in the clinical setting.

My point? GPA's when done and passed boards mean absolutely nothing, other than to improve self-esteem. You will be fine!!!!!!!
