Nursing on Long Hair?

My boyfriend is wondering if it is okay for guys to having long hair in nursing. He will start clinical in a few weeks. I told him, I guess its okay as long as you tie it back. The most important thing is that your hair doesnt get on your face when you are working with patients, that's what I told him. He has hair that is up to his chin, sort of like Johnny Depp.

What is your opinion on this?

I dont think i would see a problem if it is well trimmed and clean. Best bet is to go with the instructors view. If they want it cut, i would advise to do it. He can always grow it and keep it per the facility policy once he gets out of school.

well, i noticed a guy in our school, not sure which semester, who has a very long pony tail!

I'm sure it depends on the program. With my program I know that my hair has to be up above my shoulders. I'm sure as long as it's in a pony tail that it would be fine. But this is something he would have to check with his program.

I would think it would be fine as long as he wears it back.

Agree with the above posters...

We have a guy in our clinicals who has longer hair. He wears it back in a short little ponytail and no one has ever said anything to him. It looks professional when it's back like that, and our instructor doesn't seem to mind.

Hey, I guess what's good for the goose......????! :chuckle

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.".......love that Daeny...so true

about the hair..we were told :out of the face and off the shoulders..male or female..be sure to check with his individual instructors though to be sure ;)

I have a male coworker that has longer hair than any of the females in his unit--he has been an RN in the unit for 15 years, is in his 50s...I don't think that he has had any complaints, but he does always wear it back in a low ponytail...I don't think that it should be any more of an issue than it is for a woman with long hair..as long as it looks neat and clean and is out of the face, who cares?

At our clinicals, hair must be off the face and off our collars. Maybe he could make it into a short ponytail? Lots of hair gel? Good luck!
