by Klimpys Sep 19, '12I posted on another thread recently how nursing school is like "The Hunger Games." Today was a particularly rough day. I heard the cannon sound for several of my fellow classmates. They failed the required drug calculation test and have been dismissed from the program. I feel so sad for them. It just really, really suck to have put in so much time and hard work, not to mention money, to be admitted into the program and then get dropped the first month. I can still see the tears. Blerg!

- Sep 19, '12 by SunshineDaisyThat stinks :-( Happened to me last year, first semester, 3rd week! I didn't even get a call. Got an email that said I failed and to go drop my classes. That was it! I bawled like a baby for a good hour. I was lucky enough to get back in in the fall semester. I hope they can get back in as well!virgo, student nurse likes this.

- Sep 20, '12 by DawnJClass started July 1st with 33 students. This week, we lost another one and are down to 15 students. Dramatic attrition! I have to wonder if all of my graduating class will be able to carpool together in one vehicle for graduation!virgo, student nurse and PrayToTheUnicorn like this.
- Sep 20, '12 by itsnoworneverI wonder how much of this is lack of education? We weren't really taught med math, we were given a test and told "good luck!" I thankfully took biochem and we were taught cross canceling so I passed but even to the last term we still had people failing.MichaelaR27 likes this.
- Sep 20, '12 by Katie71275Wow that sucks!!! I understand that math is important but we don't fail our class over math! Sure math can fail you if you don't do well on your tests but there's no, Make such and such grade on Math or you fail the whole class. It's averaged in with our grades thankfully.
- Sep 20, '12 by BostonFNPQuote from Katie71275Interesting, every school I have ever heard of has a medication math exam at the start of each semester of clinical due to accreditation and clinical partnerships per the IOM.Wow that sucks!!! - Sep 20, '12 by Hygiene QueenYes, it is sad.
But the math is THAT important.
The power of a decimal point is a very awesome thing.
When it comes down to the math, there is no room for error.
