Hey folks. I am scheduled to take my exam on Jan. 8th and I was wondering if anyone else used the McGraw-Hills "Nursing School Entrance Exams" book for study material. If so, how did you do on the exam, did you find the study material relevant? I got the 2009 edition and it seems to be pretty thorough, but obvioulsy I want to do really well. Thanks and any other tips are appreciated!!

Taking the NLN in January 2011 and started to study already because I really need to pass this. Can someone give an update on here if you took the test in 2010. What is on the test..... How many questions are in each sections? and what you consider to be the hardest part? Also what study resource did you used?

Any info is appricaited!

hey tootsie, I'm going to take the NLN in about two weeks sept 11, I been study my butt off, i bought the study guide from the nln itself, because every body recommend it( pre-Nursing entrance exam by mcdonald, 2nd edition). I promise to post my score no matter how bad it is.

HESI and NLN PAX are really similar. I looked at TEAS exam study questions, too. I took both HESI and PAX and did very well on them. Search here on HESI and see what people recommended. I typed a list here:

HESI A2 Nursing Entrance Exam study helps online FREE - Page 2- Nursing for Nurses

look at:

Hesi A2 test scores - Nursing for Nurses for the link to free download of the McGraw-Hilll nursing preadmission test guide somewhere in that thread oh, here: Hesi A2 test scores - Page 10- Nursing for Nurses (I just copied /pasted that link that someone had given earlier.)

I took the NLN in April and, for me, Math was the hardest part - I still haven't met a person who actually fnished the math section without guessing a few or so at the end due to time constraints.

I got the official NLN book and it helped a tremendous amount esp. with the math portion of the test which I hadn't done in almost 12 years.

The reading vocab section was split into two parts - one part you read a passage and then answer questions regarding the passage; the second they just give you a word and you got to pick another word with the closest definition.

The math is a bunch of ratios, fractions, percentages, decimals, minor algebra and word problems.

The Science section was comprised of ALL science - so there were physics, chemistry and even earth science on the test as well as biology.

I forget how many questions were on the test - I want to say that there were 80 in Science and the Reading; and Math had 60. But with those questions are questions that are for research so do not count if you get them right or wrong.

For me, it wasn't a necessarily a hard test except for the math portion, which wasn't too hard but consumed much more time than any other section. It could have been that I was still a little rusty when it comes to Math.

I scored pretty well - I forget my detailed scores but I know that I scored in the 97th percentile overall.

But def. get the official NLN book - the questions that are in the book are just like the ones on the test and the math section is made so simple. I'm positive that if I wasn't using that book that I would have bombed that math portion. =/

Has anyone taken the NLN Physical Assessment and NLN ACE 1? I emailed NLN and they said they have no study guides. I'll be taking it as soon as my school gets it in. I'm paying for it Thursday. Thanks!

I used this particular study guide:

It was great. I was already pretty good at the stuff but the guide helped a lot. I scored 99s across the board.

START EARLY. Give yourself some time to get up to speed.

Incidentally, I doubt my school used this test as much of a criteria for entrance. GPA in selected prereqs seemed to be a lot more important. Ironically, I think the NLN test actually allowed less qualified students in my program than would have otherwise got in. It was the first year it was a requirement for entrance into the program and many students were unaware of that.

I'll be taking the exam in Nov or possibly Dec and I'm really worried. I've never taken a Physics class in my life. I bought an intro to Physics book along with the NLN study guide and am trying to teach myself physics. I also really have to brush up on my Chemistry and other sciences. I'm lousy at math, but this is basic stuff I've had before, so I think refreshing myself won't be too difficult... just time consuming.

My question is: When asking Physics questions on the test, do they want the answers in the British system or the SI system? In a book I'm using for gravity for example, it gives you the formulas for both. I don't want to waste time memorizing formulas in both systems for each topic if the test asks the questions in just one system... Are the questions in feet or meters?

Thanks!

I'm taking the NLN next month and i bought the book a few days ago. yesterday i started reading and doing the practice test of the Vocab and Reading section. It was so difficult. There are words i've never even heard of before. Now im just freaking out because if the test is like that then i know i will do bad on that section.

I havent reviewed for the math and science part. But when i do i'll let you guys know.

I agree with the post b4 me. I havent taken a physics class too.

I would to know techniques and stuff on how u guys studied for the exam. My test date is on Oct. 27th of next month

Ok so I'm taking the NLN Jan 8th 2011 and from what I here it is a make or break exam. The scores in my school go from very well to very poor. Most people do really bad on the Vocabulary because they focus so much on the math and science part. They say to study the NLN book the older the better because the vocabulary words are ancient. Im taking a physical chemistry class now to prepare for the science portion. We are doing all conversion in the SI system.

oh man i took the test yesterday and my head was THROBBING afterward.. Im seriously hoping that I juuust skimmed it and also hope my GPA would count for something.. *fingers crossed*
