in class today a girl offerd to let our teacher drop a ng tube, and well she did. girl vomited everywhere. just wondering if anyone else has seen this in class.

In my LPN program we wanted our instructor to do that to one of us, but she said the school would no longer let them do procedures such as that on students anymore.............

OMG!!! We weren't allowed to do anything like that, even give shots or start IV's. Too expensive for insurance.

Yikes - that instructor was nuts. What if she had damaged the girl?

oh wow that is crazy!!! we have such strick rules that we can only insert tubes into plactic patients that is so wild that the school would allow your instructor to do that, what other things does your teacher do I am interested to know bc that is interesting but helpful I guess just to show you up close and personal what happens.

We practice SQs, intradermals, and IVs on each other...but no way in heck would I let someone, even an instructor, insert a NG

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

My ex (who went to school in the 80s) had to put NGT's down each other. So it's not unheard of.

But that instructor was taking a big risk, suppose she started a bleeder or something like that.

OK, this is where I would have to draw the line, I think.

I've let students give me SubQ's, IM's, Intradermals, and even venipunctures in medical assisting school.

I don't think I would allow someone to do an NG tube on me.

I can't stop laughing for some reason after I read this...................poor girl--does she get an A for that portion of Lab??? I have offered numerous times for students to start IVs on me in the hospital both as a student and now as an RN, so far no takers. We weren't aloud to do that in school, nothing invasive at all b/c of insurance.

lol teach gave her a ribbon, said perfect lil helper. btw there was some bleeding caused by trauma apon insertion.

So who's going to volunteer for foley insertion????:uhoh21:
