New Requirements for Nursing School

So, my nursing classes start this Fall at Trident Technical College in SC. Over the past few months, we have been informed of several new requirements and changes to the nursing program.

1. Our shot record is no longer an accepted form of proof for vaccinations. We have to have titers drawn and show immunity - MMR, Hep B, Varicella. Now, I have had all the vaccinations at required and recorded, but the immunity was lower than the required for the "red measles". I had to get a booster shot, and now I have to wait and have another titer drawn in a few weeks. And when did they start a 2 shot series for the PPD test??

2. They have just come out with information that we will be starting to use "e-books" for classes. I am not very pleased with this change, as I HATE using e-books for anything other than pleasure reading. A few other students have also expressed their displeasure with this turn of events.

If anyone has any tips for using "e-books" PLEASE let me know!!

What program are you in LPN or RN? I hate e-books too! I Like the old-fashioned turn the pages book. I can get more comfortable in front of a book then a computer screen, so I know exactly what you mean.

I hate e-books, too. Are you able to get your hands on a hard copy? Maybe half.com or a similar site will have them? I feel like it's well worth the extra money, and you can always sell them at the end of the semester if need be.

We had to do the two-step PPD as well, and the MD office didn't even know how to handle it. I think it's a very new (and uncommon) thing.

Can you use one edition back? Got all my books for no more then $15 each on chegg.com one edition back. Totally worth it.

When given a TST years after infection, these persons may have a false-negative reaction. However, the TST may stimulate the immune system, causing a positive, or boosted reaction to subsequent tests. Giving a second TST after an initial negative TST reaction is called two-step testing.

[h=4]Why is Two-Step Testing Conducted?[/h] Two-step testing is useful for the initial skin testing of adults who are going to be retested periodically, such as health care workers or nursing home residents. This two-step approach can reduce the likelihood that a boosted reaction to a subsequent TST will be misinterpreted as a recent infection.

I am starting the ADN program here at Trident Tech. I am really hoping that I can still use the hardback books because I had several of them lined up to borrow to try to save some money as it is really adding up!

And thanks for the info on the 2 step PPD!

I use ebooks and love it because I can search for the topic in 10 seconds flat rather than several minutes or more, I can carry all my books with me without killing my back, I don't ever have to worry about a lost or stolen book, and I can look at them on my phone if needs be. And I am not required to do ebooks. Just thought I would share. ;)
