Need A&P Study Tips

I begin school in two weeks and would like some suggestions for studying Anatomy & Physiology. I want to do well in this class but I am not a good studyer.

Does anyone have any good ideas for studying? Would making flashcards help?

Thanks a bunch!!!

using flashcards would be a good idea. there are a&p coloring books, you could tape record the classes, rewrite your notes, study groups, make up your own tests, that's all i can think of now.

oh and study a little bit at a time, then take a break.. i would advise not to cram the night before, i usually studied a week before the exam a little each night.

hope this helps. :wink2:

thanks stephany, i feel like i'm leaving something important out ! i know that i used more flashcards for ap i than i did for ii. due to the bones and muscles.

good luck deb ! :nurse:

Flashcards, flashcards, flashcards! I know that I should buy some stock in whatever company makes those 3X5 cards! They were the only reason why I made it through A&P I and II!

Study a little bit every day, like 30 minutes - then when an exam comes up you won't be so overwhelmed. What helped me with the numerous vocabulary terms was to make a matching game. I would have each term on its own 3x5 card and then put each of the definitions on another 3x5 card - then mix them all up, and then spread them out all over the floor and attempt to match them up. I did this every day ;)

Good Luck! A&P was my favorite class :D

i used my flash cards the same as you teach a child his/her math. I would test myself the same way. Any concept that is difficult to understand i placed it on a flash card. (i took these cards with me to everywhere including my other job, bartending. i even taught a few of the customers a thing or two) Couldn't tell but I'm definately an type A personality.. Remember take one day of school at a time and you'll make it...

GOOD LUCK:specs: :specs: :specs: :specs:

see my post in justa suggestion.. i hope the site helps you.. too tired to post it all again :D

one of the best study tips i have ever gotten came from an instructor. try to "teach" A & P to one of your classmates/study partner. you don't realize how much you don't know until you try to get someone else to understand it.

rewriting my notes helped me so much. when i was rewriting, i would take the time to make sure that i actually understood all the different process. ex: how a blood cell travels through the body, where and when capillary diffusion happened, etc.

best of luck!

All through school I would tape my lectures...if I found a concept hard to understand, I would go back and listen to my tapes...but I liked flashcards AND highlighting all important ideas and notes in my text too!

Here's a list of what I did to get through A & P:

- I definitely used flash cards. They are excellent tools; especially

for learning the muscles and bones (as someone has already

mentioned before)

- I drew diagrams and pictures that I could visualize in my head

when it came to taking my exams. This is good for those who

are visual learners such as me.

- I used color pencils and different colored highlighters to highlight

or color important information or pictures. For example, I used

orange highlighter to highlight very very important stuff that

I KNEW would be on the exam. This color really stood out for me

and grabbed my attention. I used my blue colored pencil to color

veins or underline key information that had anything to do with

veins. I used my red colored pencil to color arteries or underline

key information that had anything to do with arteries...etc...

- I also underlined all information that I thought was important in

my textbook. When I would go back to read it a second time, I

would ONLY read the underlined stuff and nothing else.

- Having a study group helps tremendously. Everyone has some-

thing different to bring to the table. I usually formed a group

with my lab partner and the students I shared a table with.

Study groups can be fun and the other students understand

the stress you're going through. Sometimes we would spend

a few minutes venting to one another. This really helped to

decrease our stress level.

I hope this helps you. I know you can do it. If I can manage to get through A & P, you can too. I wasn't always a good studyer

either. You're going to make it. :)

Hi there!

I started a thread about this very thing about a month and a half ago. There were some excellent ideas there and some new ideas on this thread.

I was wondering though, are there flash cards already printed for A&P? I know it is very beneficial when you make them yourself, but I had heard that there was a company that made software programs and other A&P study aids. If anyone has heard of this or used this, please let us know.

I also recorded my lectures from gen. biology. Very helpful.

I guess my main concern is that I need to study more efficiently. My time is limited so I have to get the most done in the shortest amount of time.
