Navy NCP applicant for 2016 graduation

Hey Freckles&Glasses!

I'm graduating in May 2014 (so close!!!), and I'm currently in the Navy NCP. You should expect a long wait. I submitted my application last fall and found out I was accepted April 29, 2013. Your wait will probably be even longer. With the government shutdown, everything seems a bit frozen at the moment.

If you have any questions about the program, let me know. Hopefully a mod will be able to move this to the Gov/Military Nursing forum. There's a ton of info in there, and I'm sure there will be some more students from your year. Good luck with your application! :)

Ahhhh, the anxieties of waiting lol . I'm hoping I can know by the end of this semester to put my mind at ease.
Congrats on getting in!!! That's is beyond awesome-you should be so proud!
As for interviews, I'm just waiting for a call sometime within the next few days and a call sometime next week. I assume they just ask basic questions like why nursing? Why navy? Tell me about yourself...ect....I'm not too worried about it. As long I be myself and respond truthfully and respectfully, I think I'll be ok.
I don't know my chances of getting in, but I do have a 3.8 gpa and some great references that I think will give me a great push.

You're right that the interview isn't anything to worry about. Mine had a pretty informal vibe. They ask you a lot of basic questions and some that are more related to the military. (How do you feel about deployments? How does your family feel about you joining? How would you feel about moving far away from family/boyfriends? The only one that I got that threw me off guard was "What does being an officer mean to you?" My whole family is military, so I just talked about their experiences and about all of the responsibilities they have.) I think they're just looking for enthusiasm and a basic understanding of the commitment we're making. Make sure that you have a couple questions to ask back to them. (I just asked what their experiences in the Navy were like, what the typical nurse-to-patient ratio is, and how Navy nursing differs from civilian nursing.) I'm sure you'll do fine.

I also have a 3.8. If you rock the interview, your chances of getting in will probably be pretty good. :)

I have zero military family background but I thankfully have the best support system :) I haven't heard one negative comment maybe I can start a new trend in the future of our family.

My recruiter told me the interviews are pretty informal too, but I'm glad you gave me good insight so i can be better prepared :)

Elisabethm- I got one phone interview and one more to go. Like you said, all the things I was asked was geared towards to know who I am and ensuring in have full commitment. I got one more interview to go and my kit will be sent off to the boards!!

I will be starting a BSN program at Chamberlain soon. I was wondering how soon can I submit my kit? I have previous college experience 69 credits and a GPA that I am not proud of barely a 3.0. I know I will have to raise my GPA but when will I be able to apply to NCP? Also I am engaged. I hope this does not affect anything. I was told while in the program I can not have any dependents. (which shouldn't really matter but I am just curious). Also what are some of your reasons for choosing the navy vs civilian nursing ? Any response will be appreciated.
