My standards have SLIPPED (understatement)

Hey everybody, it's Friday the 13th, at about 6:05 AM. Grades were in when I checked. Before I started CNA classes, or nursing school, I was SO close to a 3.5 GPA, I could smell it.

Then I started the PCT Program. The instructor and I had such different personality clashes, I was sick and crying everyday driving to school. Then I started the RN Program, I went in with a cocky attitude, thinking, I'll be alright, I got this, and I ALMOST did. 74.5, 75 is a passing grade.

I took and English class and Pathophys, while I was waiting to return next Fall, grades are in and I have a B and a C, and a 2.95 GPA!?! And I breathed a sigh of relief?

I was just wondering when did my standards slip? Is this normal? How hard will I have to work to get my standards back up to par? Any Tips?? Words of advice or encouragement? Disapproval? Help? Something?

(This makes me a little nervous because I have to take my basic nursing skills exam, and I have to make an 80% on it to be eligible for readmission...What if I can't do it?:crying2:)

These things happen. At least you know it, and you're not making excuses like it's not your fault that you haven't done as well as in the past. Wish I had some magic words of advice, but you're going to have the find the motivation somewhere inside to get through it. Otherwise, you'll be kicking yourself when you're trying to get back in because you didn't pass.

I can totally relate, though. This semester I've been far too content to get through with minimal work and my B. I think it has something to do with the material- since I have no interest in maternity or pediatric nursing, I didn't put in as much effort there. Next semester critical care is right up my alley, so I'm hoping my drive will come back as well. Good luck.

(I thought this was going to be standards regarding a clean house :))

I would also suggest taking a moment to figure out what you need to do your best in your classes and then do it.

Leenak, lol nope sorry. just standards as far as grades. I am feeling better now though after having the day to think about it. I actually feel alot better. Thanks guys.

So you didn't pass your first semester? Not being mean; you just didn't state it :).

I also have ~3.5 going into NS and I feel [over]confident. I don't want a wake up call though so posts like this do serve a purpose (me being scared into trying my best!)
