I am on a med surg rotation, and we only get one day in OB. I was so lucky yesterday to experience what I did! I am second semester BTW. I DCed 2 IV's, DCed a foley, did some discharge instructions, and got to see a vacuum birth! There was meconium in the fluid , so there was a pediatrician present, and I was able to obnserve things form the moms end, and the babys. I got to feel moms fundus, and do her checks. I also was able to do the newborn assessment, bath, eyes, Vit K, ID, footprints, all the good stuff! I got more experience in one day there than I have in 3 weeks on medsurg. Plus, one of the nurses told my instructor that I was the best student they had, and they wanted me to work with them when I am done. I am on cloud 9!!

Achoo, that is wonderful. You are indeed very fortunate to have had a day like that in OB. Kudos to you for all that you were able to do. Hope you have many more great learning days!!

could you get a job as a tech or volunteer on that floor now, so they don't forget you when you need a nursing job?.....
if you loved it, i would advise trying to stay in the atmosphere so you have a better chance of getting hired as a nurse. new grad OB jobs are hard to find sometimes.

I am second semester ADN student. I am already employed at the hospital, I just work at a satellite clinic. I guess it may be possible to get a " tech" job there while I am finishing. I actually had never considered OB before, but I sure am now! :)
