it is such a bittersweet day for me today, and should be the best day ever..I got my acceptance letter today.:nuke:....and with it a form explaining the fees that aren't covered with loans.:crying2:...and so it looks like I will not make it for the January start date....I can't help but wonder why we are not informed of the $500 non refundable deposit (on the seat that i rightfully earned with my hard work and studying) before the letter arrives, why does nursing school have to be such a mystery at my school I have been going there for over a year for my pre req's and this is the first I am hearing about $500 and in today's economy:banghead:....I am so ****** right now...thanks for listening....

OMG!! I am so sorry, I would be FURIOUS if that happen to me. Riddle me this why in the heck do you need a nonrefundable deposit to hold your seat in a nursing program? Its not like its a reservation for a hotel room or something I don't get it. I don't have any advice honey, I just am shocked that they are allowed to implement such a fee!!! Can you get a loan from your bank or something to cover it? How much time do you have to pay it? Dont give up yet, you have worked to hard to get this far. Research what your options are.

Congrats on getting in!!!

I would talk to someone at either the registrar or admissions (or both) before throwing in the towel. You never know, they may waive the fee or work out something with you.

Peace,

I understand where you're coming from. I had to pay $100 for my seat that I worked hard for, how does that make sense?... Still though, I cant BELIEVE your fee is $500! And I thought mine was unreasonable. :uhoh3:

Dont give up. There must be a solution.:redpinkhe

please check out modest needs.

It is a wonderful organization that helps out with grants for all kinds of hardships... its really worth looking into. I know a number of people who have gotten small grants from them

I know this probably doesn't help, but some schools require $1000+.

I would really try talking to someone at the school. You truly never know what they can do until you ask. It can't hurt... Good luck, and congrats on getting in!

why cant your fees be paid by loans? that doesnt make any sense

you have to pay for your seat?? you should really go to a CC and save your money. all the schooling for me was like, $2,000.... save your money!!

Raygun 354,

I had to do the same thing. I had to pay $500.00 to reserve a seat. Of course the counselor said it will come off of the top of my tuition (and that comment makes me feel better how???). Do you have a major credit card that you use for the deposit? Can you go to a payday loan place (normally I wouldn’t suggest this because of the fees, but I understand they have flexible terms) to borrow it then pay it off after getting your left over proceeds? Do you have a relative or friend who has a major credit card who will front the transaction until you get your proceeds? Is your person credit good enough to maybe get a personal loan at perhaps CitiFinancial? You may want to check out http://www.prosper.com It is a website of individuals who make private loans to people. I also understand they much rather make a private loan to someone who needs it for educational purposes. I know it can be frustrating, but there is a way to overcome the obstacle. The other thing I can think of is a private student loan. The interest rates and fees are higher, but you are able to use the funds for ANYTHING that is related to school including living costs.

Good luck to you and keep us posted. Let us know when you got the money and reserved your seat!

Mine was ZERO and I am in a BSN program. Please, research your options and don't decline your acceptance if possible. Can you put it on a credit card in the meantime before loan money comes in?? Borrow from a family member or friend? :crying2:

Forgot to mention that although mine was $1500.00, it was not due right away. Nothing at our university (which is private) is due right away, we can just build up a balance and pay it eventually. I suppose at some point they will *force* you to pay somehow.
