My First Foley!!!

Nursing Students General Students

I am so excited! I did my first Foley tonight, on a female. I was super nervous since I got totally yelled out by a passive agressive instructor last semester in clinicals that I "just didn't seem confident" and "she guessed she would check me off" (the dummy/manikin test)

Anyhoo, fast forward to Lifespan, 2nd semester and a great new instructor! She was super supportive and encouraging, and I did AWESOME. No breaks in sterile technique, and I found the urethra right away:) .

I'm SO excited! :) :) :) Just had to share!

How cool! I'm looking forward to my first foley. Now, the NG tube is one procedure I am NOT looking forward to ever doing.

I witnessed an RN trying to insert an NG tube into a VERY uncooperative patient during my CNA clinicals last year, and the experience will be forever burned into my brain. :o

A good instructor can make all the difference!

We checked off last semester, but I haven't done any skills yet except drawing blood and a sterile dressing change on a surgical wound. Going to the OR tomorrow, so I might just get that chance to do my first Foley too! :D
