Microbiology and Human Anatomy in the same semester?

  1. Is this likely to casue trouble assuming i want As in both? and i do work full time. just curious. i'll break them up if it is a bad idea.

It didn't work for me, long story short I'm re-taking micro. I had 2 very intense instructors. Are you doing independent study or class time. Mine was class time so there was 2 classes and 2 labs to keep up with and it didn't happen. I ended up with a d in micro and a c in anatomy. I wish I had focused on one subject at a time. I tcan proably be done, but it is alot of hard work. Good luck

I am taking micro and A&P II this semester. It is doable. I took A&P I with Chem last semester and got a A in both. I worked 40 hours a week and have a fiancee and a two year old. I worked on the weekends, did a 8 hour shift on Fri and diubles on Sat and Sun. This semester I am cutting down because it can be stressful. I don't know if you have kids or if your job is flexible. I think you can do both if you study. If you know that you don't have the time to study and time is not a issue when it comes to finishing your pre-reqs break the classes up to save your GPA.

I took them both last semester, but I did not have a job. I made an A in AP and a B in Micro. It was a challenge to juggle them both. AND...sometimes I had 3 tests in one week ie 1 AP lab exam, 1 AP lecture test, and 1 Micro lab exam! That was very difficult to manage juggling the material for both. I am not sure how your school works, but I had 4 classes (2 for AP--lab and lecture AND 2 for MICRO--lab and lecture.) And trust me it's like having 4 classes instead of 2.

You just have to know your study habits, and take other time comsuming things into consideration ie work, family, sleep. Good luck...I am sure u will make the right choice

I think it depends on the student, instructors, etc. But I am a firm believer that if you want something bad enough (barring major accidents, etc.) you can do it. I took micro and physiology at the same time (working part time) and got A's in both. I had many classmate doing the same or working full time and they did well too. I guess I would look at my own ability to handle so much at one time and make a go for it. You can always drop one if you had to..... Good luck!

    Hmmmm.

job=totally and completely inflexible. no kids, though. sounds pretty tough, as described, and i really want As in both. Maybe i'll break 'em up. gotta think about this. if i do them both this semester, i can take physiology in the summer and apply for nursing school and start the spring semester. if not, that pushes me back till the fall of '06. i want to start sooner rather than later. ut good grades are important, too. need As as much as possible.

Try to find out about the instructors too if possible. My college adviser totally warned me not to do it due to the instructors being very hard. I thought I could do it because my hubby was so awesome helping with kids and house work. I was working full time and still being mom and wife but both my instructors were out of this world.

I would advise breaking them up. They both have labs, and it's almost like juggling four classes that you want As in. Why put yourself through all that if you don't have to. Be a little kinder to yourself and don't do it.

Of course it's doable, lots of people have done it. But if you don't have to, why?

edit: Sorry, just read your post that you have to finish to apply to school (it wasn't like that when I went, as they were co-reqs that could be taken along side nursing). So that answers the "why?".

Good luck in whatever you do.

Definitely doable! I took them both at the same time, as well as Fundamentals of Nursing, and got Bs in both. If I was just taking them alone (meaning, JUST those two classes), I think I could have gotten As.

I agree that they are do-able. I took a 5 credit upper level micro and 4 credit phys., both w/ labs at the same time. The hard part for me was that I took them during the summer, they overlapped and I was always late for the phys class....but my prof understood and was great about it.

I would never recommend doing them together over summer, but at the same time? Yes.

    Well, if you must....
    I don't think I could, but that's me.
