male nurses

I'm a married father of two, currently working as an agency cna and will be starting nursing school Sept 29th. There were 54 spots available and there will probably be 5-7 males in the class. It has a reputation for being a very tough program and all of the advice I've heard from graduates is to keep mouth closed and eyes and ears open. Fly low under the radar and bring no attention to yourself. It is sure to be an adventure. I've been practicing keeping my mouth shut, I sure hope it works....it could be a very hellish two years if it doesn't.

Patrick, like you I am also a father and starting the nursing program this Monday. I am excited to finally get started! A friend of mine, also a father, is starting his second semester. He has done exceptionally well so far and his main advice is to stay organized and not fall behind in your studying and assignments. I don't see this being a problem. I am sure we can handle it.

Welcome to the board and good luck,

Kevin

I am a faculty member and will be having one male in my classroom this fall...I am nervous for him but I will ensure that he does not feel excluded. When I was teaching in the past and in my own generic program, there were more than one male. One thing I know for sure during their orientation a few days ago is that these young people are all very impressive and they brought tears to my eyes on why they want to be nurses...welcome aboard!
