LPN vs. LPN

  1. Hello all! This may sound silly but what is the difference between an LPN and a LVN? I'm just starting nursing school this fall and I've been seeing "LVN" frequently around the boards. Just wondering...

Nothing really. Its just that some states call them Licensed Vocational Nurses instead of Licensed Pratical Nurses.

    hi, ginny516!

your question is a common one. the answer is that they are the same. california and texas refer to lpns as lvns (licensed vocational nurses). why? because that is what their state legislators decided to call them. here is a link to a very recent thread in the pre-nursing student forum about your very same question:

I'll admit that when I read the title of this thread, the first thing that popped into my head was Kramer vs. Kramer! Guess I'm dating myself, lol....!
